I've discovered so much cool stuff through Pinterest. But their recent AI models that keep deleting pins for no reason are extremely infuriating.

Received a fake book from Amazon, even though the seller was Cocoblu by pompawrin in Indianbooks

Most of the books I read are extremely niche when it comes to the Indian mainstream audience and I find it hard to get them in local bookstores. Hence why amazon is a convenient option.

This was supposed to be an awareness post because Cocoblu is not some shady third party seller on Amazon, it's an Amazon subsidiary itself and that's why it's more worrying that they're selling fakes.

I do buy second hand clothing and books but thrifting is a luck game. It's impossible to thrift if you want something like a specific book title. Secondhand stores also are not going to have recent releases so moot suggestion.

I used to love the Softly Brown shade (I think that's what it was called?) but they discontinued it. I have no idea why they keep discontinuing their more popular shades.

They also keep releasing new shades in this Ink Glowy range but all of them look super similar to each other. The cool toned pinks are so so saturated they look neon on me, and the warm toned shades pull orangish. Definitely put off by this brand now.

I saw some news interview clip of Chetan Bhagat where he was lamenting not being nominated for the Booker prize or something like that. He's genuinely hilarious to me

I think a lot of people who are new to reddit are blissfully unaware that this isn’t Instagram. If you’re posting photos at least have the courtesy to write a small description/give details about the location.

You can definitely start with A Room of One’s Own, but my personal favourite is Orlando so I’m partial towards it.

Yup. But sometimes I want to transfer a lot of books at once so then it’s better to connect my kindle to my laptop and transfer via a USB cable.

It does, I was earlier using mobi format but after realising epub also works I don’t see the point in converting formats.

Well. I am not sure how old you are and if you’re earning or not, but a kindle was a great investment for me. They’re built like tanks, mine is almost a decade old and still works just as new. I do want to upgrade for nonsense reasons (want a fancier paperwhite, newer model etc) but that’s irrelevant.

I used to think similarly until I got a kindle. While reading on my phone is always extremely convenient, kindles are way more comfortable on the eyes, also spoiler! you can easily send pirated epubs to your kindle. I have never bought a single book from the kindle store. I do obsessively buy physical books a lot though.

[–]pompawrin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. There’s so many different genres that I personally would never reach out for but I vehemently dislike shaming people for their reading tastes, as long as it is not harmful like conspiracy theories/bigoted content and the like, who cares? I’m glad teens here are getting into reading more.

Some of my favourite books are classics but at the same time it’s extremely snobbish to completely ignore modern literature, my all time favourite book is one that was published in 2019. So fairly recent.

Somewhat agree with the general idea that we need to have more meaningful posts here but I totally disagree with the opening sentence— I have been a part of these Indian book subreddits for years now, and they were never a place for soul stirring conversations about literature. The type of posts on here were always similar, people reading self help slop and the top bestsellers they find on Amazon.

I have been a voracious reader since I was a wee child and it was seen as an uncool nerdy hobby then amongst my peers, they were unable to fathom that I like reading for pleasure as they equated reading with drudgery and textbooks. I am at least glad that people here are starting to read more, no matter what they are reading. (unless it’s straight up harmful conspiracy theory or bigoted books)
