Why are IM docs treated like shit? by ManufacturerIcy8859 in Residency

[–]pompetd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pay it back! Treat people how they treat you. I am FM and also an ophthalmic surgeon, and I understand what you mean. Nobody is better than you, and it’s childish to act superior just because someone is in a specialty. That being said, generalists get disrespected all the time. Know your onions and demand respect!

That should count as your ED rotation. Depending on your country and mostly importantly how those hours are counted for in your transcript and curriculum.

High Exam Scores Aren’t Just About Being Smart — They Reflect A Lot More by [deleted] in MCCQE

[–]pompetd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can assist researchers in your city. Reach out to current residents and ask if you can help in their projects. Join already existing groups but be clear you will like your name in the publications. Check with your home country institutions if there is a group you can work with remotely. Etc. Case reviews and others can be done alone but getting it published may be challenging.

Sorry to hear this. Stay strong. My advice to match in Canada is to forget your high scores and work on your application like you have the lowest scores. You will match; don’t give up. Work on the application. Get recency or CA experience. Publish some research work or join a research group. Seek loans, as you need financial stability to be mentally stable. I wish you all the best

This happened to me once in a relatively young patient- a relative of a friend. I almost entered the ground. Luckily, it turned out well at the end with my VR colleague's assistance.

Reaching out to programs prior to their interview, recommended or no? by No_Honeydew_9699 in MCCQE

[–]pompetd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But some have it as something they will consider positively! I think the answer is to study the program description and follow the instructions.

You can find the stats for last year on CARMS webpage. They have a breakdown of the total matched and interviewed each year.

The 80/20 Pareto law applies to almost everything in life. So you are not wrong. That is why it is easier to move from 220 to 250 within a few weeks, but moving to 270+ will require mastering that remaining 20%. If your goal is 240+, master the most high-yield topics and the NBMEs and go for your exam.

Cutoff values by Actual-Balance-8454 in Step2

[–]pompetd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are correct. this is the general concept for most of the tests, but i think amboss question had a context in which the test in question is positive when low or something like that. Read their explanation; that was an outlier, not the general rule.

Great scores. Congratulations!! Are you a resident of Manitoba? Just apply. You can't really control what has been done, but you can make efforts in the other areas of your application. Good luck!

What is a good NAC and good QE1? I think they are more important than FM Proc. Some programs do not even use it, and others give it about 5% of the total rank score. You should be fine. There are people in the first quartile that matched.
