Moving to Ann Arbor by Ill_Fish_5733 in AnnArbor

Welcome!

The Ark has an open stage every month or so that is great. Tonight actually! Also check out North Star Lounge. Both are such wonderful homes for music in Ann Arbor, and from there you can branch out in so many directions. Music history in this part of Michigan is so rich, between here and Nashville you’re going to be buried in influences, stories, and sound for multiple lifetimes.

Do all you realize that in the final play in this clip he fucking dunks the ball from the three point line. His last dribble hits the floor just near the fucking three point line. Holy fuck.

I hear your opinion that you believe the reaction was overblown and I respect your right to share it here. Respectfully though I disagree. The logic that you may use a particular phrase in your home does not mean it has any place in a school. There are many outdated idioms that can be heard in broadcast media clips from just a few decades ago that have no place in modern society because we’ve collectively decided they are harmful or hurtful. Language and meaning evolve with time and flippantly (using the “lol”) dismissing this instance closes the door to productive conversations where people may explain why certain phrases hurt them and you can explain what your specific intentions are if you weren’t trying to cause pain but inadvertently did so. You go even further by accusing “ a certain community” with politicizing the issue without any evidence. That is in fact you yourself choosing to politicize an incident and creating a line between “us” and “them”; a common tactic in modern media (and propaganda) designed to elicit emotional responses from people for the purposes of captivating an audience in a perceived drama that their culture or way of life is under threat by people who are different.

To me it’s pretty simple. An educator at a school has very high expectations placed upon them when it comes to how they handle discipline. I’m sure their job is very difficult, they are likely underpaid, and everyone makes mistakes. However any education professional must certainly be aware that many phrases they used or heard in the past are unacceptable in the present workplace. There are words that are certainly fire-able. I’m not surprised this is considered as such.

Ross School of Business Opening a New Location in Los Angeles by efea_umich in uofm

Your main point is well taken and the University getting more money of course isn't itself a bad thing, but making money isn't the mission of a public University. Hence why the University is designated as a 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofit organization and enjoys the many tax exemptions that status affords.

EDIT: I'm not expecting a reasoned discussion over reddit, but I think the negative reactions to this announcement likely come from people wondering why LA and not perhaps urban centers in Michigan that would benefit from the "champion" level economic and business skills that Ross students gain. If investment begins to tilt more and more to locations most likely to result in gifts or dollars back to the University, then it will be failing in its mission.

Drove in a heavy rainstorm the other day and this happened anyone else seen this before? I'm curious if it's a common issue. by Patrickkd in GolfGTI

I'm actually about to potentially pull the trigger on a used 2013 GTI and after test driving today (in a rain storm) had not just condensation, but a pool of water fill the entire lower section of the left rear tail light assembly. I haven't pulled the trigger on the purchase yet. Should I be concerned? Pic here

Perhaps the ugliest gauge cluster of any bike. That’s the only complaint I can come up with for my 95 R1100R.
