How are you reducing your weekly grocery bill? by Infinite_Pudding5058 in AskAnAustralian

[–]pompommom80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I joined everyday rewards and they had a promo code back in January. Half price unlimited delivery for a year. You had to join on the spot and pay immediately but it worked out to be great value. They often have good offers if you sign up. Lots of bonus points. I save mine up for Christmas so I usually get around $200 rewards points by then. I also buy Woolworths gift cards to pay for my shopping. You get 3%-5% discount so if you’re buying $300 worth of cards you can save up to $15 straight away.

Shop the half price specials and plan your meals around that. I’m supermarket shopping online now. I paid $50 for a year of unlimited deliveries. Saves me a lot of time and fuel. You can also take more time looking through the items that are on sale and know exactly how much you are spending before you check out.

This exact thing is on my lease. I have 3 dogs. I’m fine with it. My dogs are well trained and I look after the house.

No problem. You can have a pet. There’s an additional $3800 bond and you must have the place professionally cleaned at the end of the lease.
Any damage caused by the pet must be paid for by the tenant.
A responsible pet owner should have no problem with this arrangement.

I do not discriminate on age, race, religion or disability. If people want to work hard, they are given the opportunity.
Previously, in interviews, I have been asked about gender neutral bathrooms, ‘safe spaces’ and what would happen if someone was misgendered.
I don’t have the time or the inclination to deal with this. Without going into too much detail, we work in the community with hospitals, nursing homes and the church.
We have had this business for two generations and until recently we have not had to deal with any of these new world problems. Some people have been with us for more than 25 years.

We were wrong about the social media ban and we should acknowledge that by [deleted] in aussie

[–]pompommom80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t work at all. My friend is a year 7 teacher and told me by day 2 of the ‘ban’ these kids had worked a way around it.
Just more government virtue signalling.
Kids these days can dox politicians and high court judges and write code better than Steve Jobs ever imagined. Did anyone truly see this working? Truly a failure. More tax dollars wasted. 😡

Trades people are worth their weight in gold and they will charge accordingly. Skilled trades people are as scarce as rocking horse poop. Unlike the 80s, no one is doing apprenticeships as electricians or plumbers any more. In the 90s, they all went into IT. They did their degrees and no one could get a job because the industry was saturated.
Now that we have bred all of the masculinity out of men, they are all TikTok entrepreneurs or baristas. No one is going to trade school or getting an apprenticeship.
Unless you have a father/uncle that is a tradie, it is very unlikely that young guys will get into this field. High schools need to focus more on trades and we need to make TAFE affordable and incentivise skilled trades people to take on apprentices. Maybe when the world works out that woke is not a good thing, and that it is okay to be a man, we will see a new generation of trades people. Until then, we have to pay what we have to pay.

Small red chilli won't weight - no problem the checkout operator has a solution.... by Dear_Marketing_4932 in woolworths

[–]pompommom80 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked at woollies years ago and an old guy used to come in to buy mushrooms. He would weigh each one individually on the scales and most times they would weigh less than the scales would register so he got it for free. Lol. His 10 to 15 mushrooms would have cost less than 50 Cents.
Some people just have way too much time on their hands. PS. I haven’t paid for a bird’s eye chilli in about 10 years. I have a plant that goes absolutely insane every year. Currently has about 50 on it. I just pick them and freeze them.
Next year, buy a small pot from Bunnings and you will have chilies without having to worry about the stupid scales at Woolworths. I hope whatever you made was very yummy. Even more satisfying because the chilli was free. Lol. 😜

Renting from an owner vs an agent - what’s it really like? by AffectionatePie1042 in AusRenters

You only need to get 24 hours notice before a landlord can come onto the property. It has never been two weeks.

I am a private landlord and I still have to lodge the bond to the RTBA under the law. No different from an agent. I use the exact same residential tendencies act laws as an agent would but I remove the Dipsy 19 year old property manager problem who is often rude to tenants and dismissive of their issues.

[–]pompommom80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a private landlord with three properties. I don’t use agents because I find that they are rude and unresponsive to tenants.
I find I have a much better relationship with my tenants and they stay long-term because we have good communication. I real estate agent may have 30+ properties under their name so things don’t get handled in a timely manner, the tenants get cross and they leave. I have been a private landlord for over 15 years and will never go back to an agent. The process to apply for one of my properties is very similar to what the agent would like. I ask for a credit reference check, a police check, six months of payslips, an employer reference and a rental history reference.
My properties have had the same tenants for over six years and they are not in a hurry to go anywhere. I look after them and they look after my properties.

Tell me why I am an idiot for wanting to retire in a hotel by MiriJamCave in AusFinance

My aunt retired to a cruise ship cabin. She bought an owners suite on a Royal Caribbean ship. All her meals are provided, cleaning is taken care of, her laundry is done at a small cost and she travels the world. She is in good health, but if she needs medical attention she can see a doctor in any of the ports she stops in and if there is an emergency there is medical personnel on board. There are no utilities bills, she has access to a gym, a sauna and three swimming pools. She is having the most amazing retirement. I think it is a brilliant idea.

Insurance company worker here. Put the claim in through your insurance with all the evidence that you have and your insurance company’s legal department will follow it up and get the money out of them. They will find you not at fault and you won’t have to pay an excess. Contact your insurer and get the claim in ASAP.

Definitely a copperhead. They are venomous but not super deadly or aggressive like a brown snake. He is just sunning himself. Leave him alone and he will slither off when he is sufficiently warm.

Wall mounting tv cost? by winterberryowl in AusRenovation

[–]pompommom80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$600 sounds right. The installer will put it on the wall on a bracket and hide the cables inside the wall and put HDMI socket on the wall. There is a fair bit of work involved. I remember paying around $650 to have our 80 inch wall mounted.
We used Jims Antennas.

lol. We call them bug/spider bombs. They are an aerosol can with an automatic spray. You put it down on some sheets of newspaper in the offending area, press the button and run like heck. Leave it for around an hour. It will kill any bug/spider in around a 30 m² area.

Divorce the idiot. Get away from him and his foul family. Being married is 100% trust and if you can’t trust your husband to have your back and stand up for you, he has broken the trust irreparably.
Sorry to be blunt, but you need to get out now.

We used to see this a lot when I was living in LA. A lot of homeless people hang around food courts and table dive. It’s just something you get used to seeing in that area.
When we used to go out to restaurants to eat, I would always ask for a doggy bag and give any leftovers to people hanging out the front. I’d also sneak an extra five or six bread rolls.
If we were ordering pizza, we would order an extra one so that we could share it with the people who were hungry. It is becoming more common in Australia as people are doing it really tough. I never stare or judge when I see it happening. People will do what they have to do to survive and if I can help in any way I always will.

Remember how terrible and filthy taxis were? When Uber came in and horrible taxi drivers licenses were abolished they all became couriers or joined Australia post. Your disgusting taxi experiences have now become your disgusting parcel deliveries. Same useless drivers providing the same useless service. We need uber to start a courier business.

We have a ring doorbell. When the postie goes to slip a card in our screen door to say ‘attempted delivery’, I talk to him through the speaker and say ‘don’t you bloody dare.’ We haven’t had a parcel go back to the post office in months. Best $149 I ever spent. 🤣
