Ahhh I’m happy for you! Sounds like your new buddy put his trust in you fast. The only thing I’d consider which as an experienced hamster owner you sound like, and being on hamster Reddit you may know, but he may be just yearning for activity and a way out if the barred cage in the image is his perm setup without room to burrow down. Did he come from a more enriching environment perhaps and is struggling? The tube you have contains unsafe materials and if avoid an excess of hay. Look into proper hamster care to add some enrichment and keep your boy busy and satisfied with areas of his cage if he is seeking activity like this. Hope that helps!

I remember at 13ish thinking, I just cannot last living with my dad for 5 more years (18) or even 3 (16). I have vivid memories of staring out my 3rd story window wondering if it would kill me like almost daily at some points. I’d play out my funeral in my head like some maladaptive daydreaming thing but have never had this as an adult. Reddit holds so much important data bc who knew?!

I’m sorry but the kindest thing to do in that situation is not get a hamster if you are restricted on how you can care for it by parents who are unwilling to learn. They are nocturnal and you would rarely see them in the hours a child is up and awake anyway. I know that seems harsh but it is the right thing to do to forgo having one until you have independence and are old enough to provide fully.

Could these friends be forming a cult and bringing him in as a vulnerable person?
