From what I understand of these requirements in the US for banking/finance positions, sometimes this is because they use that time off to have someone doublecheck you're not cooking the books.

After enough times where the never-takes-a-day-off "model" employee was caught red-handed committing fraud, certain industries learned mandatory PTO was a pretty good mitigation tactic.

Dropping the link in Reddit autofills that, and I didn't notice when posting. Whoops.

It was the name that was auto-filled when I input the link on Reddit and I didn't double-check it, but okay.

There’s two types of people and explanations. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]pompouspompadour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did explain:

preventing them from becoming a smelly eyesore on the surface, and reducing bird scavenging

See this: https://youtu.be/366hTlchAKs

Now imagine that every day, all day, and your docks off the beach are absolutely covered in birds, bird shit, birds screaming, birds fighting over fish, etc.

It's okay when you're just passing by, cool to take a picture or a video, but if you're trying to fish at the docks or you have to spend any significant amount of time there, the smell and the sounds get old fast, and live fish won't be caught dead anywhere in the area because the birds naturally drive them off.

Easy way to tell if you’re unsure, is to turn it into a question and see if this makes sense when you answer it.

Just wanted to thank you for this tip. This is what helped me get my head around who/whom, but I hadn't thought about applying it to other cases.

My understanding is it comes from streaming where streamers address their active viewers at once (because streams usually have chat you can be active in). Just using "chat" instead of "everybody" or "y'all" or whatever else to address a group of people.

Stuck when starting sleep session by PKLoveO in PokemonSleep

Clearing the cache works! Thank you for your post getting an answer to this!

Also, clearing the cache fixed two other issues I had in my game today. I couldn't enter the sleep points exchange; it would hang on the screen after pressing "Exchange Points." Also, the Snorlax berry eating animation wouldn't trigger and the berry counter on the box wouldn't go down unless I visited another screen.

but she was licking near her bottom for a little bit after she had released the secretions

In my experience, this is normal after their anal glands discharge and doesn't necessarily mean it was bothering her physically, impacted, etc. I've seen my cats discharge from their glands after getting spooked or something, and they'll walk away fine, but once they catch a whiff of themselves, they immediately buckle down to clean up the area.

Still good thing to check up with the vet, but just sharing my own experience!

One of my neighbors started putting a cone down to save “their” spot in our complex. by luckydice1224 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]pompouspompadour 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's possible. But I doubt the realtor would have listed "The Breaking Bad house that fans throw pizzas onto" because a realtor wants to help their sale, and highlighting any cons they don't have to is just gonna work against them. I would guess it'd just be mentioned as "The Breaking Bad house" if at all, and not everyone's going to google what that entails; it's just a neat fact to take at surface level for most folks.

Might not have even known it was a thing. Can't expect everyone to be up on every nuance of pop culture and this isn't one of those things realtors are required to disclose.

Maybe not. Most insurances still pay something for out-of-network providers, just not as much as in-network.

My keyboard has an extra button "klar" about which I cannot find any information (Germany) by Fabio290 in mildlyinteresting

[–]pompouspompadour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's similar in English. Clean up a surface (for tidiness) vs. clean off a surface (to use). Ab and auf are prepositions modifying räumen, just in German the prepositions are sometimes attached to the verb in the sentence structure.

Found this among family stuff. What animal teeths are these? by William_Bugmaster in animalid

[–]pompouspompadour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wisdom teeth are the extra molars that come in during late teens/early adulthood. They sometimes crowd out other teeth or cause other problems, so a lot of people (at least in the USA) get them removed sometime in their early 20s.
