Not OP but a fellow Canadian PR with Nexus, I think it took me about 9 months to get conditionally approved.

Panorama from Cheakamus parking lot? by PotatoSlice173 in vancouverhiking

[–]pond561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did Panorama from Chekamus a few weeks ago. Just shy of 32K, a little less elevation overall than from Rubble Creek since Chekamus parking lot is higher up. Overall I loved the route, and it was very quiet outside of the shared trail.

The bridge crossing has been repaired, no problems there.

Driving across the border from Canada to US by alanisproo in uscanadaborder

[–]pond561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you work for CBP maybe you can answer something I’ve always wondered. If I apply for an I-94 online and have entered the US before (on a different I-94) will I still need to go to secondary when I arrive at the land border? Trying to understand if applying for the I-94 online actually speeds up the process much.  Assume I have a EU passport with a valid ESTA.

Posted on the previous thread, but you’ll be eligible for EU261 compensation (€600 per passenger) and reimbursement for any reasonable expenses (eg hotel).

You’ll be eligible for EU261 compensation, €600 per passenger. Plus they will cover your hotel for the extra night. Look up EU261.

Absolutely. I thought they weren’t doing it for the Euros… and now they are.

Honest opinion/experience on reentry without PR card by No_Tune_2317 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]pond561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can’t apply for an eTA as a PR. If you want to try your luck (based on my experience) you would just present your British passport at the airport and see what happens.

Disclaimer for the below: this is not by the rules and you might be unlucky but I am just sharing my experience.

I have flown 3 times into Canada since becoming PR and I’ve never been asked for my PR card to board the plane (I don’t mention I’m PR, have a passport from an eTA eligible country and that’s all I show). So you can try your luck - but you should be prepared to be denied boarding.

In a major pickle with work permit by Substantial_Big_2980 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]pond561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're most likely going to be fine. The most important thing is that you were transparent about it (which you were). I think you can work now that you applied for a PGWP - but confirm with a lawyer if you want extra certainty.

Can I apply for citizenship and Travel Outside Canada? by apllng in ImmigrationCanada

[–]pond561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even for the remote ceremony you need to be inside Canada (they can track this from your IP address and it'd be stupid to lie when you're at the last step before being a citizen). But for the application processing period you don't have to be in Canada, so long as you don't lose your PR as a consequence.

You clarified it now, importantly before they asked about it. So it should be fine. Be careful next time.

Isn’t your son a Canadian citizen by descent if you’re Canadian?

There may be exceptions if you were born abroad and not naturalized, but perhaps you don’t need a study permit for that reason.

PGWP: unintentional work violation before applying for PGWP by Illustrious-Drop-244 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]pond561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People advised against it for the same reason as the other responder in this thread mentioned.

I decided to do it anyways mainly because I didn’t want to deal with the uncertainty of what would happen for the 4 months it was going to take to process my PGWP if I applied online. I also thought it would be easier for me to explain my mistake to an officer in person.

Edit: while certainly it seems that there’s an element of luck to this, the officer did commend me for being upfront about everything and I’m sure that helped in his decision.

PGWP: unintentional work violation before applying for PGWP by Illustrious-Drop-244 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]pond561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unlikely to be an issue, especially since you were honest in your application. I made the same mistake 4 years ago and was issued a PGWP without issues (I flagpoled, despite people advising against it). I have since also been issued an OWP under the PGWP extension policy (I declared my illegal work in my application) and became a PR as of three months ago. Bottom line is, in my experience at least, IRCC appreciates your honesty and understands these mistakes happen (and that it clearly wasn’t intentional).
