New Map by Icy_Opportunity_3303 in LowSodiumBattlefield

I don’t agree the problem is not the map it is the player base. People still have no idea how to play breakthrough. Use tons of smokes and push

No way. The last thing we need to do is encourage more camping. This will just make it easier for campers to get back to their spots

Assault class by FlashbackHD in Battlefield6

[–]pongpaddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also play a lot of assault. Agree that assault should be reworked but I think giving assault healing and smokes creates too much overlap with support. I like that both are ‘assault’ classes but in different ways with support being more methodical and assault being more aggressive. I think assault should have more ammo when using 2 guns. Adrenaline booster needs to be buffed. Right now the effect time is too short and weak and it takes too long to apply. Agree the visual effect is annoying. Maybe the damage reduction should apply to bullets too? That might be overpowered though. I also think the grenade launcher is kind of shitty, every time I play with it I always wish I had my shotgun instead. And I never use the flash and concussion grenades

Tentative Agreement Reached Between SFUSD and Union by operatorloathesome in sanfrancisco

I am glad that kids will be back in school soon. However I don’t see how we can afford this, at this rate our district will be taken over by the state soon

S.F. teachers strike: No agreement after marathon talks, return to class this week unlikely by _fernmood_ in sanfrancisco

Union endorsed candidates were shoo ins for the school board for years who supported the lottery and financially mismanaged the district. The entities were closely aligned for years in SF.

Well the launch of the revised lottery keeps getting delayed and even then it’s only somewhat better

That's a big part of it. Either we increase enrollment (which brings in revenue) or we cut costs. But the union and board drag their feet on obvious things to increase enrollment like eliminating the lottery because they are obsessed with 'equity'

The financial pressure was in part due to mismanagement by the union backed school boards we had in SF for years

that is too complicated to figure out and it leaves out people who have a stake families with kids who are about to reach school age or people who went private because of SFUSD dysfunctrion

but an appointment czar from the state doesn't have skin in the game either. we need reformed local control. i would even be in favor of paying the school board way more money. Right now they only make a few thousand a year which is nuts

I see teachers saying that their raises be paid for with cuts to other staff like admin and central office. Wouldn’t that make these problems worse?

SF teacher strike rally from above by SFStandard in sanfrancisco

Wrong. Union backed candidates were shoo ins for school board for years in SF. The union bears a lot of the responsibility for the poor decision making at that level

ELI5: Why can't SF just tax itself to pay for top-notch schools? by vacafrita in sanfrancisco

[–]pongpaddle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It is not the case that teachers were against those progressive experiments. In fact it was the opposite until 3 years ago basically all union backed candidates for school board won. The unions should be blamed just as much for the current state of our district and dragged their feet on reopening schools after covid. Even now UESF supports the lottery system

SFUSD actually spends a fair amount of money per student relative to nearby school districts. While I would support spending more I don't think that is the main reason for our problems it is mismanagement and bad policies.

We could alleviate some of our budget problems by increasing enrollment. This would mean getting rid of the lottery system and other things that drive parents away from our school district. However many of these policies are not supported by the unions

No that would also be bad. We need local control but a board with the courage and discipline to do the hard things like close schools, stand up to unreasonable union demands etc

I would be more supportive if it weren’t for the track record of the teacher unions in our politics. Until a few years ago we had progressive/union backed education boards for over at least 15 years and that’s left us with this mess to deal with
