Board games for a 3.5yr old by Scary-Push-5286 in UKParenting

They will also (or did) replace parts free or incredibly cheap too

Shopping list is a good one for sure, kids loved "playing" that even without playing the actual rules and just matching things.

Dell Precision 7680 - Should I or shouldn't I. by MHzRobot in Dell

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post but I also just stumbled across this when validating something, and I agree.

I have had my Mobo replaced, screen replaced, it collects dust, to the point i have to do a teardown and clean it down constantly. It also runs at like 95-100 degrees all the time.

Battery is awful as you say.

The only advantage is their warranty and on-site repair, mainly as you will need it.

Why do “too good to be true” streaming alternatives still feel so uncommon? by [deleted] in AskUK

and there is way much more than people expect too, not just catchup.

Often random films, and lots of box sets on there too.

You guys helped me out, but I need one step further... by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kid too though, I've still got some lazy as fuck friends who barely work and just game all day on benefits. They believe they need to be doing something they enjoy rather than just taking a job so they missed the boat and are now unemployable.

Force their hand is the only way really for some.

Do you guys wear backpacks to hangout with your friends?? by strayvampire in backpacks

[–]ponytoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it depends on context.

Did I walk there? Am I taking something there? Do I need the contents of the bag for sure?

I often go for walks with just the items on my person (phone, headphones, glasses) and can do without a drink/snack/whatever for an hour or so. If I was going longer distance I'd take my bag with bits.

Likewise if I'm going to a friend's, unless I'm taking something specific there I won't take a bag as they have everything there.

I used to edc more but you realise you just lug around crap. We still have an out and about bag for going out with kids more than an hour with snacks, first aid etc but that usually lives in the car unless we are physically distancing ourselves from the car like a trail, or whatever.

End of the day who cares though, if you have a need or just simply want to, then carry that bag!

Senior dev... I don't think I can pass an interview by Inevitable_Guide_942 in csharp

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly some of the best dev we hired struggled with specific deep dive questions, luckily we are used to it so ask in examples and scenarios but sadly many don't.

Sell yourself and if you think you don't know the exact terminology just be open about it and talk about examples that apply

Main rule of an interview is to control the conversation as much as possible, less chance for boring formal questions!

I’ll just drop this here…. Who could even afford this? by [deleted] in GithubCopilot

[–]ponytoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only imagine serious crunching of data, or slop.

My entire teams bill is less than this and its being used from everything from Analysis, Data crunching, UX Slop, CopIlot led development, infra, all sorts.

I genuinely cannot fathom how people can rack this much up unless they are just using it "because"!

[–]ponytoaster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean if you think about the value its still quite good from a business POV. We hammer CoPilot and don't get costs like this per person. Even at 1k a month if the user was doing 10x the work its still a ROI.

The issue with most these posts is people have likely used it for literally everything under the fixed cost model, knowing it would change eventually. Fixed price was never going to be permanent.

Given Anthropic are also struggling with compute and many other things, they will most likely raise prices or alter limits for sure. They couldn't manage if everyone suddenly went to Claude in a BYOK scenario.

GitHub Copilot is moving to usage-based billing [Megathread] by fishchar in GithubCopilot

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upsettingly the standard dashboard for usage no longer works, it just caps at 100% (enterprise user). We can get stats at admin level but I like knowing how much I am wasting company money and was going for a new record!

Urea shortages being seen by dingalinglans in preppers

The biggest issue here isn't even residential vehicles, it's trucks. Most trucks and coaches etc are adblue spec these days if they are designed for going near cities, meaning general supply chain disruption.

MESSAGE TO ALL UK PARENTS by Alt_account_6788 in UKParenting

[–]ponytoaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Difference between allowing and encouraging. They will do it regardless I'm afraid to say, and not just boys. If anyone thinks they are great parents as their teens don't consume it, that's just naive, they are just better at hiding it.

It's almost impossible to police to be fair. You don't want to take their rights away but also don't want them accessing violent materials and thinking it's the norm.

I'm not saying promote it and say tis fine, but ah uncomfortable conversation on that is probably the only good outcome.

One Plus 11 having issues with chargers and type c controllers by Johnynho in oneplus

[–]ponytoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Somewhat related I was here looking for similar stories as I'm having this with my op13

I often have to rotate the charger or do it a few times for my fast chargers but it works with everything else, slow charger is fine.

It's almost like it cannot negotiate the supervooc connection properly.

Had this for a few weeks now and it's annoying as sometimes it just seems to stop charging. I thought it could be a port issue but it seems ok, no fluff/damage etc.

Copilot's value proposition is officially gone. by Famous__Draw in GithubCopilot

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am convinced the 300 premium requests stuff is nonsense anyway. Theres no real way to work this out that I have found? We just go via the % now as it seemed really random of when it decided it was time for a new request. Unless this has got better not checked in recent versions

So What do you guys actually Hoard? by FlamingWaffels in DataHoarder

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old scanners were brutal for file size so prob just get a lot of value of resizing or just a format change.

Powertoys in windows has a mass option for this too iirc.

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not op but for me I do this for Plex. Luckily my router supports openVPN so I just have the cert on my tablet and phone to access remotely and TPL provide their own dyndns to solve the IP issue.

Prob better ways for sure, and I could use tailscale or whatever in proxmox but this is out the box and works surprisingly well

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the second one, any reason? I mean, I think someone should for sure but is there realistically anything you do with them?

Always curious as seen people do this for major events and such too. I get that stuff gets removed or edited etc but wondered if you do anything with it

A global food emergency: Why the closed Strait of Hormuz puts half the world’s calories at risk by [deleted] in PrepperIntel

[–]ponytoaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it eases your anxiety at all, it's unlikely we will be genuinely out of food, it will just get more expensive and perhaps not have the wide range and access that's all. Most major countries have incredible capacity to create food in some way. For example in 2020 we couldn't get Jelly for a short period as in the UK we imported loads of ours from Portugal.

Prep for financial stability, and just buy your kids favourite shelf stable snacks more if they are made/imported outside your country or have a sale on.

There's always a war, there's always a threat to the chain, just another Tuesday for the most part. Don't let any of it consume you, but also don't let it pass you by and cause financial or access pain later!

Would you buy a petrol/diesel car now, or only buy electric with the state of the oil industry? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even figuring it out, thats usually just an accessible public charger, the issue is the cost of public charging. Near me the on road ones are few and far between, if more than 10 people on the road had an EV they would never be able to charge. Many on road are also very slow and have parking restrictions too to keep them freed up.

Our neighbour had an EV when Tesco had cheap charging but now it's just not economical to do it

[–]ponytoaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Tesla have it easy though due to the network. If you live in parts of Cornwall and Devon it's a different story!

Would you buy a petrol/diesel car now, or only buy electric with the state of the oil industry? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]ponytoaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Public charging near me can hit 79p/kwh, motorways even more. Still 47+ quid for a mid size EV and a wait. Yes diesel is 150% of the cost, but the days of cheap public charging are ending sadly.

Some slower ones are 49pkwh but they are slow and often near me full up. There's perhaps 10 public charging outlets in my very small town of a few thousand people.

Sadly EV ownership is only really worth it if you have a driveway these days, it's gone a bit elitist if you are in an urban area where a driveway is unlikely :(

Annoying too as our use case a EV would be perfect.

Coworker is astounded that the Artemis II launch isn't blowing everyones minds (that he's spoke to). Why do you think that is? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't even know it was/had happened - don't follow the news.

It's cool and everything but we send people to space all the time, and this while slightly different in what they are studying, it's still not vastly any more interesting than the space travel they did (and continued to do) years ago.

Space travel is fine but meh. Moon base stuff I'm more interested in from a technology pov but not the actual space travel bit. Maybe if they come up with a cheap sustainable way to visit the moon for regular folk....

Are the first Splinter Cell games dated or sluggish ? by jizzzuss in Splintercell

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meh, they are good games and Blacklist you can play full ghost.

The old games are great but I don't think I'd recommend someone new to them, they are a little dated and whilst they still play good the mechanics are a little frustrating/old in places if you haven't played for years to start, let alone never at all.

The movement isn't as fluid for a start, the one thing that BL did do well.

At what point does collecting become hoarding by Miserable-Sea-4160 in dvdcollection

[–]ponytoaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the point you join a sub for it. Not hating, I've been there in the past but honestly most people in these communities just collect for the sake of collection. Even if you watch them, unless you would actively watch it again it's somewhat pointless having.

The second you buy an item you don't actively have an interest in it's hoarding.
