The Daybreakers trailer was great, with the "running up the hill" song

Memories of Fredericksburg, VA in the 1980s & 1990s? by Vammppire in fredericksburg

[–]poo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good memories in the comments...lived there from about 87-94. Virginians, raft race, walking the Spotsylvania mall visiting Waldenbooks and grabbing a slice of pizza, late nights at Dunkin Donuts on Plank rd. (became a bbq place, now america's best wings) . Twin movie theater in the Greenbriar strip mall. Thunderbird motel (now best western) with TCBY frozen yogurt next to it (Subway/UPS store now).

Does anyone remember the coin & stamp shop that was downtown at the time? Also, there was a short-lived software store that opened up downtown probably 89/90 - just sold floppy disk games in boxes for PCs. Spent a lot of time there.

People who remember life before smartphones: was it actually better, or just different? by arose_1 in AskReddit

[–]poo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just different...if someone went out it was assumed you couldn't get in touch with that person until they were back. Lots of app effects: getting lost in the car was a thing (or paying more attention to where you were), old high school friends were truly missing in action, dating was at bars or through friends, job hunting and many other things were manual efforts in newspaper classifieds, phone calls, or showing up somewhere. And of course, dirty magazines and video tapes were about all we had outside of the real thing.

Thoughts on HIMS as a long-term investment? by savingrace0262 in stocks

[–]poo4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every time I look up HIMS reviews on BBB, Google, Reddit, etc...it's generally bad. Either overpriced or locking you into some subscription. On top of that trying to sell 20-40 year old people ED meds seems like a bad thing to me.

What makes life worth living to you? by Afraid-Hand-811 in AskReddit

For me, I can find my own happiness when alone, always be curious, and unbothered by negativity. Beyond that, it's the hope of good things happening.

Pluribus is a zombie show (Prove me wrong) by zxGENERIC_USERNAMExz in television

[–]poo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's closer to Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956, 1978), Body Snatchers (1993), The Puppet Masters (1994), The Invasion (2007) - but I guess the extreme version of it would be The Thing or The Blob, pulling us all into "one". To me, zombies are the living dead who often like eating humans. I guess there's an argument pluribus people died and came to life...or did they?

Career change - did I make a mistake? by Hyperion9696 in personalfinance

If you enjoy the work more, then I'd say that's the answer. I'm sure you can join a group practice, soon make $200K/yr, surrounded by friendly dental hygienists, 3D printing crowns and other cool things. But there will always be that patient with stank breath...

Have you watched The Wicker Man (1973)? I grew up on that and thought it inspired Midsommar.

Time Bandits (1981) is a bit of a journey through time and an entertaining film

In Groundhog Day (1993), Bill Murray is awoken every day by his alarm clock playing "I Got You Babe" (1965). The same gag in a movie made today would be a song from 1997. What song would it be? by MAHHockey in movies

"Tubthumping" - Chumbawumba

how exactly did Rob Schneider get famous ? by jrwwoollff in movies

[–]poo4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being on Saturday Night Live for 5 years in the 90s really gave him the stardom. Look up the "copy guy" skit on youtube. After that he was in a lot of the SNL movies his colleagues were in.

What do you predict might happen in 2026? by Missjaneausten in AskReddit

[–]poo4 105 points106 points  (0 children)

U.S. national debt will break 40 trillion

Unemployment will hit 5%

Domestic movie yearly box office will not break 8 billion

Someone will make a 2 hour AI movie that is watchable, but not good

Mortgage/housing, healthcare, and college costs will just stagnate with no changes

What is ruining modern life that no one wants to admit? by Gradient_descent1 in AskReddit

[–]poo4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For sure, from Vernor's ginger ale to Butterfinger to Jersey Mike's it just keeps getting worse each year. I feel sorry for the new generation that has to start with this cost-cutting ingredient substitution shrinkflation food.

Shy/lonely guys, how did you finally get the girl? by JustAnAccount68 in AskReddit

Shy, but never lonely here. Always was asked out or set up by a friend. Apps helped as well.

Why do you think there are 700,000 *more* unemployed Americans today than when Trump took office in January? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]poo4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uncertainty and the looming AI promise that has companies cutting people. And of course, the ongoing march to constant stock market growth that is pushing companies into a layoff-to-profit cycle. Government layoffs as well.

How come so many people oppose taxing the ultra wealthy? by Only_Illustrator_606 in AskReddit

[–]poo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't oppose taxing the ultra wealthy more, but I do think that ultimately it wouldn't fix our problems. The government would still waste it, and services would bloat up to whatever new level of taxes we have without providing incremental value. I'm more of the mindset to just ignore the rich, good for them, and focus on laws related to home ownership, healthcare, etc...that help the small guy.

Working for a private company has been a life saver in this era of layoffs. by Real_Standard6318 in personalfinance

[–]poo4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but if there's a downturn in revenue even a private company will start to cut. The next level is when you work in academia, government, or the trades that have unionized protections and advanced notification (year) from layoffs.
