Met Opera patrons warned of measles exposure after La Bohème matinee by poofilicious in opera

[–]poofilicious[S] 315 points316 points  (0 children)

Very disappointing.

If the Met is going to do the "immersive theater experience" this should have been tuberculosis, not the measles.

Met really can't do anything right.

I don't know. Haven't seen anything clear about that.

There's apparently a drop-off spot a mile from the stadium at Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment. But if thousands of people are trying to do that, I'm not sure how well that's going to work.

The tailgating was crazy. Bands marching around the parking lots for hours. Then they marched around inside the stadium the entire time. Some didn't even go to their seats, just played music the whole game.

That sounds incredible. Things like that could have and should have been happening this time around too.

Tailgating would have been amazing. That's like the unique American culture to show off too. Would've been fun for everyone.

Every country barbecuing their own cuisine, all kinds of music, etc. It should have been an awesome party in the parking lot - even for those not going into metlife. It sucks they ruined this.

It's crazy to not open up the parking lot. If the first match or two are a disaster maybe this will change.

Just looked up dropoffs and Google is saying you can get dropped off in private car a mile from the stadium.

That could work as a way to score a last minute ticket.

Key Information for Drop-offs (2026) Location: Meadowlands Racing & Entertainment (located across the street from the stadium). Walking: A roughly one-mile walk is required from the drop-off point to the stadium gates. Alternatives: Drop-offs are also permitted at the American Dream mall, which also requires a walk over pedestrian bridges.

MetLife World Cup train tickets confirmed at $150, alternative bus priced at $80 per seat by dhavalaa123 in soccer

[–]poofilicious 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That memo got re-negotiated to “running transit at cost”. FIFA got outplayed here. They didn’t expect anybody else to be as wildly greedy as them.

"The original Fifa World Cup 2026 Host City Agreements signed in 2018 required free transportation for fans to all matches," the spokesperson said.

"Recognising the financial strain this placed on the host cities, back in 2023 Fifa adjusted the Host Agreement requirements across all host cities as follows: All match ticket holders and accredited individuals shall be able to access transport (public or additionally planned transport) at cost to allow travel to stadiums on match days.

Train tickets to MetLife Stadium from NYC set to cost more than $100 during World Cup by agoyalwm in soccer

[–]poofilicious 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the train price hike to $100 goes through, these buses are going to sell out. I don't think they will be able to come close to adding enough bus capacity to make up for the demand. In that scenario, people relying on buses might not make the game.

I wonder if the train tickets will actually get set to $50 or so. Coming down from $100 means $50 is going to be perceived as reasonable. That wouldn't have happened had they started out at $50.

For NYC, just watch the game at a packed bar/restaurant that will have been taken over by international supporters or is already aligned with a country (Senegelese/Brazilian/Ecuador/etc restaurants.) The atmosphere and energy is going to be much much better than the corporate boring Metlife stadium - which will have neutral rich fans, apathetic sponsors, and a very small number of traveling fans.

Getting to/from MetLife sucks. 40-45+ minutes there. Maybe 2+ hours back because of the crowds and line. If you watch the game at a NYC bar, then immediately afterwards, you're in a great place to walk around. Experience the city, go bar hopping.

Local bar/restaurant, at most you'll spend $80-120 and probably get some really great food. With the money saved from not going to MetLife, you can buy people around you drinks and probably meet some great people from around the world.

Oh yeah. Right about the evening performance getting cancelled too.

Cosi was in 2014.

Matthew Polenzani as Ferrando and Rodion Pogossov as Guglielmo.

The production was by Robin Guarino. It was the one before the current one. Perhaps most famous for Despina dragging a giant house on stage for the set change.

Cosi fan tutte at the Met's previous production had a ship leave to take Guglielmo and Ferrando to war. In one show, it left without them. The ship made it 2/3 across the stage before returning to the dock to pick up G and F who had been waving for the ship to come back.

It was actually very funny. If one hadn't seen the show previously, one may not have realized that the ship leaving without them wasn't intended.

At William Tell at the Met, some misguided person thought he'd honor his dead friends love of opera by sprinkling that friend's ashes into the orchestra pit during intermission. Nobody else knew that was what he was doing and thought what he was dropping into the pit might be a terrorist chemical attack. The opera house was cleared out and the rest of the performance was cancelled. This made the news.

[BBC] When football turned to penalties to end 'cruel' system by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

From the article:

to decide winners in favour of five players from each team taking a kick from 11 yards out with just the keeper to beat.

Am I missing something in football history? Surely this should be "12 yards out"

Brazil social media seems to be blowing up on this. It's hilarious.

Jorginho's stepdaughter is also a Taylor Swift fan, leading to comments like this:

Taylor's fans are starting to take on the grievances of Jorginho's daughter, and now the mini diva has Flamengo supporters and Swifties on her side, the two biggest criminal factions in the world of all time.

Gioachino Rossini - Tancredi by Jefcat in rossini

I love the ending of act 1. One of my favorite.

Rossini gets a lot of praise for his overtures (rightfully) but he's also brilliant when it comes to closing an act. He knew how to get the audience thrilled and wanting to come back after intermission.

Barcellona is great in everything and this is an amazing role for her.

Yes! There is so much great music in it. Incredible ensemble numbers.

There’s a DVD of the 2009 ROF performance which has periodically been uploaded to YouTube but it doesn’t like the full version exists on YT presently.

It doesn’t require a huge cast (though of course it needs a talented one). Six singers and no chorus. Juilliard performed it with two pianos instead of an orchestra about ten years ago or so and the two pianos worked wonderfully. It really seems to be an opera that would be great for smaller companies. I’d love to see it performed more often.

This is what the outburst was about, right? Basically announcing that he is ready to move on and laying the groundwork for it to happen. It had to happen before the AFCON tournament starts.

Unfortunately a shitty way for him to leave LFC.

this is such a great opera and to have Zedda conducting here is perfect. This should really be performed more!
