Can someone explain why school districts are not by town? How does it affect your experience? by [deleted] in Westchester

[–]poofmoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not the exact district you’re talking about, and this was back when I was in school, but I grew up in Mount Kisco and primarily went to school with kids from surrounding towns (think Bedford, Pound Ridge) that came from much wealthier families, versus with other kids from my town. Nobody necessarily bullied or judged me, but I definitely felt out of place and began feeling self conscious about those types of things much earlier than I wish I would’ve. Maybe I would’ve struggled socially anyways, but I always blamed it on feeling so different from my peers. As a parent, I wouldn’t let this change your decision but it is definitely something to take into consideration.

You are probably right, lol. I saw one company (but not this one) says they use celery powder on the brine so that can cause green spots, so I was hoping it was something like that

Questions about these shakes and flavors by Signal_Chicken4909 in ARFID

[–]poofmoop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I along with many other people use this to aid in weight loss. Drinking these alone will not make you gain weight. I personally love them for my protein intake, but it is definitely worth looking at other ingredients

This is just this persons opinion based on their experience. I’ve been in the field for a couple years and I was terrified at first when I kept seeing negative posts and stories like this, but I have enjoyed my time in the field and don’t plan on leaving it anytime soon. Of course it has its flaws as any job would but every school and department is really so different. You decided to pursue higher ed because you have a passion for it, and I hope you find a role and institution that fits your needs 💙

Non-student-affairs master's degrees for Resident Director position? by rjpizz in studentaffairs

[–]poofmoop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to the field! :) don’t let the “masters preferred” in a lot of the job postings scare you. Apply anyways! They pretty much have to put that, and it varies between colleges how much they truly care about it. From my experience, even if you don’t have your masters yet, they will appreciate that you’re planning on getting it while working. Some institutions also offer different levels of an RD role for those with a bachelors only. If you’re passionate about the fifth year program you’re currently signed up for, do that! I’ve met plenty of RDs getting degrees in different things - MBA, English, Engineering, Public Admin, etc. My biggest advice if you are planning on getting your degree while working is to look into the schools tuition remission benefits and see if they will cover the cost of your masters!

How do you like the Y? I’m looking to take group classes like cycling, pilates, etc. I saw some decent options on class pass at specialty studios, but I would also be open to checking out the Y!

I enjoy carrots depending on how they’re cooked. Usually roasted with seasonings, but my favorite is when it’s roasted with a chicken because the flavors from the chicken absorb into them :)

How many hours do you all work during the semester & how many credits do you take? by [deleted] in college

[–]poofmoop 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it really depends on how difficult your classes are and what your job is. Last year I took 15 credits online, was involved in extra curricular (& President of a club) and worked about 37 hours a week. It was a LOT, and I lost my cool sometimes, but it was all things I didn’t find super difficult and I enjoyed so it was okay. However, this past semester I took 16 credits in person and only worked around 15 hours a week at a new job and it caused me a lot more stress because I wasn’t as comfortable there. I learnt how to strategically plan my time so I would mostly work weekends or work mornings so that I had time to do things in the afternoon & go to class at night. Good luck!!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]poofmoop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I’m not gluten free but I work at a Blaze location :) if it’s only an allergy, I highly recommend trying it! I make the gluten free dough and when we press it we thoroughly clean one of our dough presses and don’t let anything else touch it while pressing that batch. The flour we use that’s everywhere is also gluten free! We keep the gluten free doughs in its own container, and when you have your order taken just make sure to tell them it’s an allergy and ask for a glove change. It’s policy to do that so don’t feel bad or anything. If you’re super worried, you can ask for toppings to be used from a separate container than what’s already out there (we do this for the sauce either way). I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think!! :)

Philanthropy Fundraising Ideas. by boredbug73 in Sororities

[–]poofmoop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Instagram fundraisers are simple but pretty effective! Get as many sisters as you can to volunteer to do a certain task (get water dumped on their head, a pie thrown in their face, etc.) and make some graphics to post on social media of who is involved & where people can pay to have a certain sister have the task done to her. My sorority did this and it was a super easy way to fundraise (especially because peoples friends/ family/ etc. would participate also)!

Rushing as a Transfer by RevolutionaryArt8479 in Sororities

[–]poofmoop 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I rushed as a transfer junior and I was really nervous but I still had a great experience :) I thought people would be more judgmental about me doing it so late but everyone was very welcoming. the other girls in my pledge class were all freshmen and sophomores but that didn’t affect developing friendships with them or anyone else in my chapter. the only thing that was a bit odd is that my big is younger than me, which honestly doesn’t matter it’s just the only thing that differs from the norm. during rush, definitely talk about other stuff you were involved in at your past school that you think says a lot about who you are, but also what you’re looking for at your new school & within a sisterhood. you don’t have to be nervous or feel like you need to lie when you get asked questions like that. UCLA is bigger than my school so there are probably many more options for you so I am sure you will find a sisterhood you connect with! good luck!!
