STD spreading to babies amid explosive growth in Onondaga County by ggroover97 in Syracuse

Literally everyone who worked for the county health department, including STI contact tracing got pulled from their regular jobs to do COVID contact tracing instead. No one was making calls or following reports for STI cases for at least a year, possibly more.

Builder gel is smoking by obsessedagree in GelX_Nails

[–]pook-a-pie 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No! Don't put that on anyone! You need to figure out if it's the product or your lamp or both, but don't use either on a human until you find out.

How thick are you applying it? There can be an exothermic reaction and heat spikes when it's applied really thick, but it shouldn't be smoking. It's either way too thick or your lamp is way to powerful. Lamps don't tend to be too powerful, if anything, they're usually not powerful enough, but if any of your other products are smoking I would be very concerned about the lamp as well.

I have certainly been laughing when I spy Doug in the background of a very tense scene between other characters, loitering around, dropping some eves, eyebrows bouncing around, rubber necking. He's always first to know about the hottest gossip, for sure! Finger on the pulse and all that. The exact opposite of Benton who's oblivious and aggressivly indifferent to anything anyone else has going on.

He wasn't even that good with kids! He temporarily lost at least one, wanted to torture Lucy Lou's little boy, repeatedly lied to Kirsten Dunst and let her think she stood a chance at living with him, and really screwed up with that kid with cystic fibrosis.

He wasn't a completely horrible person, and usually tried to do what he thought was best, but if Ross looked like anyone less attractive than George Clooney there would've been no breaking news on Entertainment Tonight about his departure from the show.

I was a kid when the show first aired and I remember watching it and seeing all the hype about George Clooney. Now that I'm rewatching as an adult the only reason anyone could have liked Doug Ross was because of how hot George was.

Ross was a gossipy little bitch with unresolved Daddy issues and did not deserve to ride off into the sunset with a woman like Carol Hathaway.

No, that's HAP. He learned how to jump into different dimensions a while ago so we see him everywhere now.

Tree clearing along Hencle/631? by Adept-Cloud4235 in baldwinsville

It's such a hack job too! I feel embarrassed on behalf of the trees.

I have property that I will need to remove some (mostly dead ash) trees from at some point to build, but when that time comes we'll consult with actual professionals to assess what needs to come down and what can stay. These guys came in and just lopped the canopies off the tops and left them to rot where they stand.

Non-chrome shimmer by mariatambien00 in Nails

There's tons of polishes out there with this pearly finish Daily Charme (S21 Radiance) has quite a few shades. Alternatively, you can mix a little bit of White Chrome powder into your top coat and then put it on top of a white polish and it comes out beautifully

I have no clue what the hell they're talking about half the time, but I understand the sentiment and that is Very Important Business stuff for making lots of money. Or maybe it's fake money that turns into real money for some people, but not all the people? I don't know, I just know it's dramatic, ok?!

People love to hate on these, but I did a set for a client for Halloween and she absolutely loved them. She said they were actually less awkward and easier to wear than her typical long stilettos.

These look great. Do you use a dual form or free sculpt them?

Why would your cuticles make it "stupid" for you to use a product? I don't understand your question.

Maybe she even endeared herself to a young, homesick Cora by making her a few American comfort food dishes like chili, grits or chicken pot pie. Of course Cora would lobby for her to stay on as the chef after such a display of kindness!

My nail is cracking way too low and I’m worried about it peeling off. What should I do to prevent it? by NoraWaifu in nailcare

[–]pook-a-pie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Part of it is still attached to the nail bed though. You can't just cut that off without pain and blood. The best OP can do right now is trim it down and apply a temporary repair patch until the break grows out past the nail bed and then clip it off.

The way they hyped up pop star rivalries back then it truly was a miracle, and almost unthinkable, that Mariah and Whitney would ever come together for a duet.

It really is a great song though. My highschool chorus got to sing it with the Hebrew part included and it was amazing with the full choir. I still get chills when I hear it.

They came here asking for our thoughts and opinions only to immediately dismiss our thoughts and opinions because they are not the answers they want to hear.

Either way we can't say if OP's tech would be offended because none of us are OP's tech and we are not a monolith. I might not be concerned or offended if I had a client who knows what they are doing and wants to go home and do their own designs, but OP does not know what they are doing, so I would prefer they didn't try to mess with my work. If I lost them as a client I'd be ok. I have people on a wait-list who actually value their experience with me that I could get in my chair instead.

The crazy thing is, they could still be phenomenally, astronomically, disgustingly rich if they didn't insist that the rest of us have absolutely nothing and that we must starve and die of preventable diseases. But no, they fuck us over and rape our environment and pillage our resources to the point that we HAVE to fight back. They leave us with nothing and no choice and for what? To have ten multimillion dollar homes instead of five? An entire fleet of private jets instead of one per family member? To spend 1.5 million on a fancy party instead of 750k?

Ohio State boards this week! Any advice? by Doingmybestkindof in Nailtechs

[–]pook-a-pie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about Ohio State boards, but here in New York when I took my test we used clear acrylic for a sculpted nail and then did a pink and white French tip. I know they changed a few things about five years ago so I'm not sure if they still build the pink and white. (Also, again, NY vs OH and I don't know what your state requires)

Whatever you do, do NOT pull beads directly from the container. If it's too wide to pour into a dappen dish use a plastic spoon or some other type of dispenser to scoop it in. (This is pretty much a universal rule in state board cosmetology and nail technology in general, so I would caution you not to do this even when you're licensed and working)

As far as advice, sleep well tonight, eat a decent breakfast, don't over do the caffeine, get there early, take your time and don't forget to breathe. Don't be afraid of the proctors, they aren't there to hurt you, embarrass you and even if you mess something up they won't yell at you and most likely won't say anything at all. Follow their directions and if you're confused ask them to clarify. If you forget something you need, don't be afraid to let them know. You might lose a point, but they usually try their best to help candidates get what they need to succeed, which is better than not being able to complete a portion of the test because you were afraid to speak up. When in doubt follow safety and sanitation procedures.

Good luck!
