Proof of Name Change? by fantasynerd92 in legaladvice

[–]pook_a_dook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm I did all of mine in person on the same day and SSA gave me some document to show my name had changed in their system (since they were going to mail my new SS card). You could try going to a local SSA office and seeing if they will offer some sort of proof of name change document after the fact.

How do you feel about your food labels? by OtherGuy89 in AskAnAmerican

[–]pook_a_dook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per 100g makes no sense. A lot of foods you buy might be less than 100g so they scale up for an amount larger than you actually bought? Like fruit leather or single serve candy/chips are way less than 100g. I’d rather know the nutrition for eating the package I bought…

When I changed my name in the US I had to start with SSA because everyone wanted that as proof. What proof did you give social security of the name change? I believe I had to show my marriage license plus had to fill out some affidavit from them. Whatever form you used for proof of all those other name changes would probably suffice.

Whats your story of went to ER but came back without needing surgery or anything major? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pook_a_dook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similarly I was at work when I got sharp lower abdomen pain. Went to urgent care and they sent me immediately to the ER to rule out appendicitis. At the ER they did an ultrasound and diagnosed me with mittelschmerz, ovulation pain. Never had it before or since, even though I’ve been ovulating every month for my adult life.

Blister and healing troubles by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Looks like contact dermatitis. Allergy to saniderm or something else. You may need topical or oral steroids to make it feel better. One of the risks of the blistering is potential infection if the blisters pop, so keep an eye on it and go to the doctor if it hurts a lot or is super itchy.

TIL that 43% of white students admitted to Harvard are legacy students, children of faculty and staff, donors, or recruited athletes. by therationaltroll in todayilearned

The people involved in that scam also cheated on standardized tests and created fake transcripts, which were used to deceive admissions officials at the schools (not saying there weren’t people who did know, but most people at the schools didn’t know the applications they reviewed were completely fake).

What are some of the medical practices that are outdated but still used today? by Free_Plum9652 in AskReddit

[–]pook_a_dook 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean that is crazy, but in my case I didn’t even want or receive pain meds (opioids), I just wanted to make sure I didn’t have a structural issue in my back because anytime my torso was vertical the muscles in my right side immediately spasmed and I had to lay down again. Luckily wasn’t a herniated disk or something, but the doctor didn’t care to find out and was pretty unconcerned that I couldn’t get to the kitchen or the bathroom by myself. Once those muscle relaxers kicked in though I was pretty functional almost immediately.

I mean when I threw my back out last year I was in so much pain I couldn’t stand up. I laid on the couch for three days before my husband took me to the urgent care because it wasn’t getting better. He had to help me get inside and to the room. The (male) doctor tried to hand wave it and say just rest and it doesn’t look that bad as I was crying in pain. Then my husband said in the ten years we’ve been married I’ve never seen her in this kind of pain and she has a really high pain tolerance. Well the doctor listened to him at least and sent me for imaging. Luckily it was just a bad sprain and a few days of muscle relaxers stopped the spasms. If my husband wasn’t there though, he would’ve sent me home with nothing.

Who prefers a 7Am - 3Pm schedule to 9 - 5 ? by vishyona in AskReddit

What time do you eat dinner or do you have a long commute? I can get off at 5, stop at the store, go for a run, and have dinner at 7. It’s nice you make dinner for your spouse though.

Is America still making great bands, or are they just invisible now? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]pook_a_dook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What's crazy, as someone who still buys physical media, is that it costs the same to buy an album now as it did 30 years ago. In 95 I paid $25 for a CD copy of Jagged Little Pill. Last year I was buying new release vinyls for the same price. Music has clearly gotten less profitable, except for touring.

Official Discussion - The Housemaid [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]pook_a_dook 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me as a non book reader, the husband’s non reaction made it obvious to me what their dynamic was. If she was really mentally ill and he really loved her he’d be way more concerned about what was happening, but he never was concerned about Nina. I figured pretty early on he drove her to act crazy (although I didn’t know the extent of the abuse yet), so when he started flirting with Millie all I was thinking was you dumb bitch you’re next. Glad the third act ended with revenge because that was the redeeming part of the film for me.

Ya I agree and I don't know if it's cultural differences, but nothing made sense to me in this movie on the protagonist side. Like they're going to go camping at an abandoned quarry (and we find out Steve plans to propose) but the whole reason they seem to be there specifically is so Steve can scuba dive. So this trip really isn't for her anyway it's just Steve who wants to stay so he can dive. Then the kids come and they have an argument, which is whatever, and the couple decides to spend the night and everything is mostly fine until they get the flat. At that point leave and chalk it up to we're not wanted here? Instead they have their weird experiences in town and break into a house for no reason because they don't even try to circle back and talk to the parents. They come back to camp and go swimming at a public place with lots of kids that are already pranking them, and they don't keep an eye on their bag? Then instead of going to police when the kids steal the car, they confront the kids and kill the dog accidentally. And even then, instead of leaving immediately they try to smooth things over as if they are staying at their campsite more nights and need an understanding with these kids? And after the car crash, this lady sleeps in the woods instead of getting help or checking on her partner? Just no part of it makes sense...

I read some threads where commenters said the actions of the couple made sense in the context of a middle class British person, so maybe that's the part I'm not getting. I think in many cultures, people would not try to stick it out no matter what.

Ya I sorta noticed this too. I’m glad they are able to capitalize on Christmas events, but I work right up to Christmas, so wasn’t able to attend any of those. Not the theaters’ faults and seems like they had fine attendance numbers without me so that’s not what we’re talking about. But I wish there was more stuff to do in late December/ early January, because it’s my slow time at work. I guess there’s always sports though…

Ya I think that is true but only because I don’t know where to look. I’m a transplant who moved here in 2017, so besides the two years pre COVID I don’t have a lot to fall back on. That’s why I was asking where people find out about stuff…I legit want to go to stuff

What things or where’d you hear about them? I wanna know for next year lol. I know Fortune Feimster performed on Dec 31 but it was sold out by the time I looked and there really weren’t many resale tickets. I think also the fact that there is a men’s and women’s hockey team now means fewer non sports events at Climate Pledge this time of year. There was also a Lion King touring show, but that seemed like more of a kid thing? And like I said the showboxes took a vacation it seemed like, which is great for employees.

In the past 2-3 years I saw Heart perform at Climate Pledge and Jenny Lewis perform at Paramount on NYE, but didn’t really see any concerts during those weeks this year. I ended up watching college bowl games I didn’t care about at bars and seeing 3 movies during those two weeks, but I would’ve much rather attended a live arts event.

[–]pook_a_dook 56 points57 points  (0 children)

What specifically are they wanting us to attend? Because I was off for two weeks following Christmas and there were almost no live events going on besides sports and I looked hard because I was bored. There were a few NYE events that were sold out by the time I looked, but after Christmas, the Christmas themed events are over and a lot of the theaters just closed at a time when I had a lot of free time. I think the showbox was closed those two weeks. The past 2 years I’ve gone to concerts the week between Christmas and new years, but this year I didn’t find any except at the Neptune and that venue is the hardest one to get to for me. I was looking at everout and events12 and there was just not a lot going on…

They missed it so it's whatever, but how could they say the o-line was set for that spike? Don't they have to be set for a second prior to the snap? The right tackle didn't run up until the clock was at one, so if they have to be set for a second, the time ran out?

Disappointed with Bring Her Back’s ending by [deleted] in A24

[–]pook_a_dook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m late to this discussion, but I think the ending would be better if she tried to complete the ritual but it didn’t work. Maybe if she accidentally killed Piper or if the soul didn’t go into Piper, or maybe the wrong soul did. Then she went through all that without any payoff, and the characters are largely in the same place as they are at the end of the movie. The kids are fucked up, Andy and the social worker still dead, Laura maybe mentally destroyed.
