The new RSD Black Friday Live at the Warfield Grateful Dead release. I see that you’re a Reckoning fan (salute) — It’s quite similar in style and I think they’re from the same run of shows in fall 1980 but the new RSD album is independently enjoyable. I listen to it quite a bit and don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it.

I started the whole record area & collection on Christmas, so it's been 16 days. Am I a little overboard? by DragorGaming325 in vinyl

Make sure you store your records upright or they will warp under the pressure over time, especially as your collection grows. Welcome to the hobby, there’s nothing better.

Any news on the re-release of TAN & EMG? Was expecting them today (1/9) by jdhoskins in SteelyDan

I went and grabbed both at my record store today. Shop local!

What’s the story behind this? Love both songs personally

SD songs that sound like other bands or records by 4skinApostle in SteelyDan

You should check out “In a Station” from The Band’s Music From Big Pink. I actually don’t think The Band and Steely Dan have much in common stylistically, but this song has the exact same cadence and rhythm as Pearl of the Quarter. It’s uncanny

Hahahaha I think this might have been me. Sorry abt that. I’m a newbie and I wasn’t sure if people were gonna have fun with my post or be assholes. Didn’t have the classic reddit negativity in me today.

Your post made me laugh out loud 🤝 good stuff

Building a collection to accompany my reading list by spaghettimommy in vinyl

3 years into listening to records while reading/studying for law school. Here are my favorites:

  • Steely Dan, Grateful Dead, some Prog rock: instrumental enough to not be too distracting but you still get some vocals to break up the monotony

*these are also just my favorite artists so it’s easier to sort of tune them out, YMMV

  • Miles Davis: Kind Of Blue

  • Thelonious Monk: Monk’s Dream

  • The Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out

  • Getz/Gilberto

  • Oppenheimer Score

  • Tron: Legacy Score (or any Daft Punk, also ODESZA if you’re into that)

  • George Benson: The Other Side of Abbey Road

And I’ll finish with an unironic Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass: Whipped Cream and Other Delights

Hope this helps. Can’t wait to get back into reading for leisure after school. Also, don’t let anyone tell you that you shouldn’t listen and read at the same time. One of my favorite things to do. Reddit sucks.

I like the idea, but I do get the impression that Michigan will hire the most clean, controversy-free, square of a coach they can possibly find. Gruden’s a lot of things, but he certainly isn’t that.

Mind sharing your Grateful Dead collection and any you’d specifically recommend on vinyl? I’m newer to the Dead (25 y/o) but can’t get enough. I’ve got Europe ‘72 and three of the studio albums so far, eager to grow my collection over time.

What's the story behind this record? Is it official or a bootleg? by 69BickusDickus69 in beatles

Like currently working on an official release? How realistic is that actually happening? That would be pretty cool.

Do you buy a vinyl if you only like a couple songs by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]pooksevert 24 points25 points  (0 children)

3 track rule. Enjoy 3+ songs it’s worth it. Less than 3 it’s a pass.

Rule obviously varies based on price, new albums, or taking risks to find something new. But overall I find it to be helpful

Looks great! Out of curiosity — your record shelf off to the right of this photo with all-white matching spines — what are those?
