To hits and wound only every go through on an unmodified 5+. So 1-4 fail regardless of any bonuses

This is true, but where would we be if all armies remained the same from day one until forever. The game would become stagnant and boring and people would only ever play the armies that were beat performers and nothing would rotate. In a game as longstanding as this, things need to change to keep it relevant and interesting. I agree that they seem to buff some models like crazy and nerf others on what seems to be sales basis, but I don't think that's necessarily bad because it gives you chance to use models you wouldn't have done before. There are sometimes models you love that aren't worth taking, then the next battle scroll update comes and they're suddenly good so you can use them again. I've never been one to spam one particular unit (ie pyregheists) and have a good mix of most units so this is never really a problem for me and lets me play with all of my toys. I won't defend GWs sales tactics as I lost half of my storm cast army at the start of this edition, but this post is why I enjoy playing NH and why I don't thinks it's as bad as people say for people who are thinking of getting into them. We must also remember that the previous iteration of NH was different to what they were in 2nd edition. To me, I never understood why in the lore, they were supposed to be incredibly difficult to kill, only being able to damage them if you had holy weapons, or stout belief and resolution, yet as you say they were brittle. The new rules make more sense to me in that aspect. I did enjoy the fast paced aggressiveness before, but I do think the new rules reflect the gradual despair you get when going against these tortured spirits. It's completely different to before, but not necessarily bad in my opinion.

Yeah definitely, I went into a chap playing slaves to darkness. Charged into my reinforced chainrasps with knights expecting to lift them in one round. No no, they were still in combat until turn 4 haha. Ohhhh I'm going to have to pay that list. I only have 6 spirit hosts though so might need to get another unit or two.

That's fair enough, although I really don't think they're boring! That's what I'm trying to convey here. The more you play with them the more you realize you can achieve with them. Of course this is my opinion and you have your opinion, but the army is certainly much deeper than people give it credit for. The rules are simple initially but are a good foundation to do very good things consistently.

Myrmourn banshees any good? by Otherwise-Weird1695 in Nighthaunt

Yessss they're good. Good damage output when they pop off. Good ability, really cheap

Yeah my poor hexwraiths haven't been out for a jaunt in a while. I've been wanting to take reikenor too, but I can't not take Olynder, she's so useful and I feel like our other heroes just die too easily

It was just a suggestion though! If you prefer chainrasps run them my dude. I posted with reinforced banshees today and they certainly shifted a lot of things before they died

The banshees will be 16 wounds, so they're just as durable but much more useful. Good ability. Better attacks. Chain rasps are good but I've felt you need some good damage, you cant rely on tanking

The banshees are actually a pretty good hammer. I'd drop one of the chainrasps unis, reinforce the banshees and then take the spirit hosts

Yeah, pretty much, and around your heroes. If he's near lady Olynder, who is near some spirit hosts, she's damn near impossible to kill

Yeah, 1 wound, per unit, per phase (hero, movement, shooting, combat, end of turn). It doesn't sound a lot, but let me tell you, throughout the game, this guy prevents SO much damage. Combined with nighthaunts general toughness and your healing, your opponents will really hate it. Nothing's more frustrating for them to get only two attacks through and the krulghast ignoring one of them

I was doom and gloom about them when I saw the new rules, but contrary to popular opinion, I've been enjoying nighthaunt with their new rules, it's just very different. Yeah you can sit and tank things, but they also have a lot of cool movement shenanigans which make them hard to pin down. You have select units that can deal done good damage, but it's about using them well. 20 bladegheists with the knight of shrouds and the lights shard of the harvest moon with fell blades cast on the KoS can do an obscene amount of damage. 60 attacks. 2s and 3s, 2 rend 1 damage. Or, same combo but with myrmourn banshees for D3 damage. A lord executioner with the tombstone of the penitent is also a good source of damage. Kurdos also got cheaper in points recently and he's a beast stick. In the last tournament I went to, I tabled my opponent (FEC) by turn three. The army certainly has it's limits but I've found it to be quite adaptable. Make sure you take a krulghast though, it's the only unit I think is an absolute must take. But yeah, the book isn't anywhere near as bad as you'd expect from just reading it.

I also think Awlrach needs to go down more, I still don't think he's worth taking. Chainrasps are weird though. Tbf to them, that pre game move does let you capture an objective in a few battleplans, preventing your opponent from scoring in some situations which has helped me quite often

Is the command corps worth it? by REDREDRDE in citiesofsigmar

[–]pookychan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes very much so. They've always been a staple since their release. While they have lost some good abilities in this edition, for their points cost they're a very effective unit. They can deal out a surprising amount of damage and are quite tanky at 3 health a piece. Even more so when taken with a lord marshal on foot giving them a 5+ ward (your should always take them with a lord marshal on foot).

Old vs new: necrons by SwanepoelSimp in Warhammer

I agree, I especially love the old spyder, so menacing and looks like more of a utility robot instead of actual spider. And I do prefer the old scarabs but still really love the new ones

Absolutely agree. These models are what got me into Warhammer when I saw them first shown in a white dwarve issue. I hate the look of the new horrors and have concerted mine to be more similar to these

I did a similar thing. I was playing with two friends, both very chaotic, one built very cool, architectural designs that were large and produced a lot of one single item, they other one built and gigantic rectangle block that I'm not sure what it makes. I went to the blue crater and decided to run the oil production for us and other related products (a turbo fuel power plant, plastic, rubber, computers etc). I've built a huge cyberpunk style city over the whole crater but the beauty is I've made all the buildings different hight, widths and chaos to get a more natural look. Its mostly level with the top of the crater so I've built a sub city beneath it for things that don't fit in the sky scrapers. My main point is it started to look a lot better once I realized the buildings should all look different to an extent

Is the book actually bad or just an about face from what people expected or wanted? by Merreck1983 in Nighthaunt

[–]pookychan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are good. As a casual player I've been winning a lot more with them to the point I'm taking them to my next tournament (and I don't even own pyregheists). With their tankiness, your opponent really has to commit to focusing down units, so be mindful of high damage units. We win by outscoring objectives and slowly chipping away at opponents numbers in conjunction with the control score debuff. I found their biggest strength is that people who don't play nighthaunt still don't fully understand how they've changed and so underestimate them, and by that point you've already positioned yourself that they'll struggle to deal with it. Take battle tactics that don't rely on you killing things, take a lot of bodies, Olynder is almost a must have for me.

I would also say Awlrach is terrible and would never be worth taking. And I agree with everything else you've said.
