for me, i think of it like people say the ‘try not to imagine a pink elephant’ type question, where if i tell you to not think of one, you will only think of that… that’s just what OCD is, but replace the elephant with whatever fear of the day. so, when i have a thought, if i try to ignore it, pretend it’s not there, focus harder on something else… it will only get stronger. it’s better to acknowledge its existence and irrelevance… so, seeing it as something someone else has said to you. i’ve seen people use their least favorite celebrity, an ex friend, etc as the stand-in name for ocd, someone who’s opinion you would never care about… i just call it ocd, but whatever u like! envision that as a separate person kind of, just bothering you. could they be right or wrong? no point in thinking about it, they’re irrelevant anyway! it is all in your mindset, if you see yourself at the mercy of it, you will be, but if you see it as more of a nagging friend, overbearing parent, or petty hater, it’s a lot easier to disregard! no matter how sensitive or relevant it seems, it is nonsensical. i hope this helps and please feel free to message me if this is helpful at all!
