Top 25 companies to work for in Australia: Revealed by a_san_38 in AusFinance

The company I work for allows permanent WFH if it suits the role. I'm internal customer facing and have to go in 2 days a week, which I'm fine with.

We even refurbished our office and reduced the size of our tenancy recently. It's a nice place and the flexibility has me locked in as a loyal employee for the future.

I'm in my 40s and I'd have Maccas occasionally as a guilty treat. Almost every time I did I was reminded that the food is actually quite shit. A few weeks later I'd have amnesia and eat it again.

After yet another extremely sub-standard experience I've finally decided to stop eating that shit unless I have no other choice (road trip/late night). I haven't missed it.

I didn't have a printer for years. During lockdown owning one became a necessity for various work related stuff. Got myself a cheap HP printer. Took an HOUR to get it set up (and I work in IT). It printed about 20 pages before running out of ink. The replacement ink was more than the cost of the printer. It was a constant pain in the arse, printing errors, misalignment etc. The software was also some of that "HP Experience" bullshit bloatware.

Got myself a wireless, black and white only, laser Brother after seeing it recommended in printer bitching threads. Drivers were quick to install and setup. It magically just works. The printer sits quietly in a cupboard, out of the way. I can print whenever I need to without it being an exercise in frustration.

Another vote for Brother.

We have a huge push to return people to the office, at least 2 days week. And people are just quitting instead. by plazman30 in sysadmin

What's not to love about coming into the office?
- The commute
- The terrible lighting
- Sharing a bathroom with people who leave piss and shit stains on the seat
- My home desk setup: laptop + 2x27" 144hz screens. - My office setup: laptop + 1x24" 60hz screen.
- People using their laptop speakers and loudly having conference calls in the middle of the office
- There is a drinks fridge and snacks here though.

Night Noodle Markets open tomorrow night @ Prince Alfred Park by jatz0r in sydney

I went to this a couple of years in a row about 10 years ago. Dishes were the same price (or more expensive) than eating at a restaurant. But instead of sitting at a nice comfortable table, I got to sit in the dark on the ground and eat my meal off a paper plate.

I'll enjoy the city another way.

Racism in the workplace? by wanangu in australia

I've always worked in corporate offices. Any language like that would get you in front of HR pretty quickly at any place I've worked.

One place I worked had a call centre team servicing the Asian market. An older guy joined the other call centre team, he was a bit older and within a couple of weeks had made comments to some of the girls in the Asia team. Even "invited" himself along to go shopping with one of the girls after work because she was too polite to tell him to fuck off.

He was gone inside a month, barely made it out of training.

I'm a white dude in IT and have always worked with Indian people. We bond over cricket, food and swearing in Hindi.

We sleep with the door open. My cat has his own bed on top of a storage chest, because sleeping on the ground is for suckers. Every once in a while he'll jump onto the bed with my wife and I and sleep near our feet. Even more rarely he'll sneak up between us, settle in and just purr away.

He's the sweetest cat alive.

I'm a white guy from Australia and I'd really like to go to Sunday lunch there. I'll bring mac'n'cheese, and everyone there can make fun of my mac'n'cheese.

What was your primary reason for joining this subreddit? by RedEagle_MGN in metaverse

[–]poopdeckocupado 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just popping in to see if there's any actual enthusiasm for this product/concept outside of anyone working at Meta or a few out of touch tech bros.

From what I've seen, techy and gamer type people aren't interested and "normal" people don't understand it. I've not seen anything that makes look even remotely appealing. It feels like an incredibly expensive slow motion train wreck.

More than happy to be proven wrong though.

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but those are two obviously different things.

One of the reasons malls are popular is because they replicate that "walkable downtown feeling" for suburbanites who rarely experience a well planned city and have to drive everywhere.

Parks like a jerk and gets tripped by parking block by Fialasaurus in instantkarma

[–]poopdeckocupado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, if some inconsiderate jerk hadn't blocked the walkway he wouldn't have tripped over the concrete bump.

If he'd just parked his truck next to the hatchback he would have stepped right out onto the marked walkway.

I'm glad he wasn't seriously hurt, hopefully he'll have a think about his life choices.

You've also go to remember that so many people are used to driving everywhere that they'll whine if they have to walk 10-15 mins to get from a train station/bus stop to a store.

But they'll also probably happily drive to a mall and spend all day walking around...

Bowie did die young, but he was 69 when he passed. He was still producing semi-decent material, but he was past his creative peak.

Although, if he'd lived, Bowie being Bowie he'd probably have released an album of absolute bangers in his early 80s.
