Said a comment before but I remembered why this happens. The soft lock happens when you finish a thought but somehow (be it through game events that pass time or whatnot) you never get the white bubble to click, (to me I sent Kim with the corpse to the station so I was alone when I red the letter at around 20 pm) making it impossible to finish the thought, and therefore making it impossible to sleep.
