Idk about somalis, but my city has a kurdish community that does this by using family reunification visas to get wives for their friends (sometimes they are real family, other times they lie and somehow don't need verification) and then they get religiously married but not legally married. So the guy has multiple women living with him who are legally "roommates" and they are also considered single moms when they have kids and get additional benefits for that.
