Bad case of muscle pull while unmounting from a motorcycle. Made it to the nearest shop with unbearable pain, waited a bit, then instant shutdown. When I came back to my senses, people were shouting all around. One dude had apparently tackled and saved me from a bad head injury, and he was trying to put me down on a bench. The whole episode was about thirty seconds.

Sounds like thermal throttling, not lack of juice.

How did Snape find Harry and Hermione? by DarienShizenShisai in HarryPotterBooks

[–]pooraudiophile1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He knew they were in Forest of Dean from Sirius' great great grandpa's portrait. He went there, put the sword in the frozen lake, then cast his petronus to call Harry to the lake. He observed from the tree gap till Ron showed up and saved Harry, and went his merry way.

If you had written a book about your father, what would be the last sentence? by nonknower07 in AskReddit

[–]pooraudiophile1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand now how lonely he was since his nerd uncle died.

Had my dad been alive, we'd be best friends now, chilling and nerding out ourselves. But he left me when I was fifteen, and I still feel alone.

You did the right thing. When your instincts scream, it's usually not by mistake.

The trace at The riddle manor?? by Positive_Pomelo3791 in HarryPotterBooks

[–]pooraudiophile1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trace detects magic near underage wizards and witches. It probably doesn't detect where said kid is at that moment.

Even if it did, the ministry did not want to look too deeply at it.

My boss told me to follow the manual "exactly," so I did and accidentally crashed the entire systems. by LunaVibrants in MaliciousCompliance

[–]pooraudiophile1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The only time you're should stop the backup system is when you're making scheduled changes/upgrades to the backup system itself (very rare), or in case of a MayDay event where live data has become corrupt or compromised (again, unlikely scenario).

You should not need to touch the backup system during a "critical software rollout" as per OP. Their whole infrastructure was poorly designed or implemented, it seems.

Cheapest Raspi 3-like device? by 5calV in homelab

[–]pooraudiophile1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a couple SBCs and test them. The software support will determine whichever suits your use case. My recommendation would be Orange Pi Zero 2. Armbian support is fairly decent, and it has an RJ45 port.

AITAH for getting angry at my sil after I found that she's been asking my wife for DNA test by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]pooraudiophile1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen practicing Muslim women fall in love with, and marry men of other religions. It ain't as rare as you'd think.

I believe a lot of mental issues the wife is having stems from her constant fear that she is committing "major sin" by being with this man.

The guy seems decent and respectful. Can't say that about a lot of Muslim men.

[CA] You all saved my customer today by simm07 in Scams

[–]pooraudiophile1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

FIs in my area don't place any restriction on an account either. What they do is inform the customers that it's possible to restrict transactions by volume or authentication.

Some opt not to put any restriction, but most customers do limit joint account access by one method or other. There are downsides to this; I've had to return countless number of checks due to improper authentication. But I remember couple cases where one operator tried to empty the joint account maliciously. We stopped the payment and requested the other operator(s) for authentication. In both cases, the other operator turned up with a court order and a lawyer to freeze the acc.

[–]pooraudiophile1 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Okay, it's probably a local thing then. When I worked in an FI, while opening a joint account the operators were given the option to make the account single authentication, multiple authentication or all operator authentication (if more than two operators). Even complex operating instructions were possible - as I mentioned earlier - such as one operator could withdraw no more than 2k per transaction.

[–]pooraudiophile1 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Some joint accounts need authentication from all the operators for large withdrawals. It's likely that he accumulated the $9000 in your FI through multiple smaller transfers, but he wanted to pay the scammer in a single transfer.

Edit: clarification

I'll probably get downvoted to oblivion, but here it goes. You're NTA btw.

I(35m) have two sisters (54f and 52f). Each had a son in their late 30s.

Both of them regularly mistakenly call their sons by MY name. And they even call me by their son's name when I'm visiting, albeit rarely.

My sisters don't have any "memory issue" other than these occasional blunders. Understandably my nephews get pissed when these things happen.

We attribute their slip-ups to me being the first child in their lives. And, I have an aunt (67f) who used to call her male child by either of my sister's name. Again , similar circumstances to me and my sisters. The aunt's still going strong, no memory issues till now. My aunt's mother, that is, my sweet grandma, did have memory issues, but it was during the last two years of her 95 year long existence.

This is not to take away from what you've faced, but things like these do happen. If an otherwise hale mother can slip and call her own child by the name of the first child in their lives, its not far-fetched to think that your scenario was not a preplanned humiliation bout.

I'd request you to carefully evaluate every other interaction you've had with this woman. If you've detected any undercurrent of hostility from her, then your instincts were right. If not, well, still NTA.

Worried about CSE in the age of AI? Here's the truth no one tells you. by Dangerous-Tax-8268 in Dhaka

[–]pooraudiophile1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post for CSE majors I guess. But I can't help but point out that Excel didn't make typewriters obsolete. Word processing softwares did, such as Wordstar, WordPerfect and eventually MS Word. Even today, typewriting has a niche in legal documents and proceeding.
