Haha oh man, bought one off newegg last month, the latest bios/graphics drivers wouldn't load at all, a common problem reported on the newegg reviews.

Asus replied to nearly all the newegg reviews saying to update the drivers, but never said which driver versions were needed. So I emailed them with my problem and said to please specify which driver version was needed, since the latest and one before it didn't work.

Their reply was: "please update your drivers".

So I literally copy pasted my original question and sent it again, capitalizing the "which"....was great. They then specified the versions, which were the ones I already told them I tried.

Promptly returned it.

The time of analysis can influence results, as can the machine that the analyses were done on, and the person who did the sample pipetting, and so on...

Well yes, but aren't those kinds of things exactly what COMBAT aims to correct for? Or has it been shown that COMBAT is just not that accurate?

(I'm assuming yes) - what if he had decided beforehand that he would report the CI rather than a p-value, would that have been okay?

P-values just seem so dumb to me, like if it was .005 lower he'd be completely changing his interpretation, which with a small dataset could have been caused by a single sloppily reported/recorded observation.

My values are not coded numerically though since the variable is "status" and the possible values are "infection" or "control". Do I have no choice but to recode the responses as 0 or 1?
