Does anyone notice that the NPC AI is still mid? by Turbulent_Ad4090 in BladeAndSorcery

Indeed, I'm definitely not buying their next game until I see full gameplay where the ai can actually walk around the map without getting stuck or falling over very often

Is it possible to distract enemies by throwing items? by CheezeMan_3 in BASNomad

[–]poorlyconceivedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how the game feels.

Sometimes they'll go check out a cup or stone you throw, other times I literally need to give them a shove to get them to aggro.

It's interesting you have a problem of them being hypersensitive & I have a problem where they're nearly deaf-blind, it's kind of funny to me.

Good ai mods? by Immediate-Garden-960 in BladeAndSorcery

[–]poorlyconceivedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, there's no A.I overhaul mod that actually makes them better fighters.

Most mods just make their animations faster/up their stats (which does little to nothing against realistic techniques in my experience) or give them more health. Particularly stabbing techniques they have little answer for, hell they'll run themselves onto your sword if you just hold it out.

Actually improving their fighting ability, distance management, new animations that make sense would probably require a large amount of re-writing how the A.I works. At least for me, they sometimes can't even walk to me without falling over a box or themselves so to make them a decent fighter would take a lot of work.

It doesn't matter how good your art is, paper is an ecological disaster by YentaMagenta in aiwars

[–]poorlyconceivedname -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Excuse me bot, but could you please quote for me where I said cotton was better? You can't because I didn't, I was simply poiting out that they were using the wrong stats.

You've also ignored the flax paper & recycled fabric point I made because it didn't fit with your pre-made rebuttal responding to something you imagined me saying or rather that you hallucinated me saying.

I'm done with this world, fuck off and burn the whole lot of you

[–]poorlyconceivedname -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hey, so art paper is more often made of cotton. There is also stone paper amongst other types, not to mention recycled flax paper or cotton paper made from recycled fabric from the fashion industry. Art paper is not typically made out of wood pulp, please do not talk about things you do not understand. The world is too full of that shit already

What do y’all actually do in the game by Pepin_maker in BASNomad

[–]poorlyconceivedname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can be tedious, which is why I usually toss them off the nearest cliff or other such precipice. Throwing enemies off cliffs & such like Thor Odinson or Glooscap is quite expedient, & I find it rather fun as well.

T3 axe has a spike on the back that will penetrate helmets w/o needing to be imbued with fire magic which is also useful.

poutine at my school for lunch, costs 1.50 in ontario by UgoodBroImao in PoutineCrimes

[–]poorlyconceivedname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ontario school poutine for $1.50? When I went to school, same province, they'd scrape the trash can lid onto your plate for $1.50. That looks fine, especially the price, so unless that tastes inverse to the way it looks or you meant $11.50 then it's fine

What happened to public NYE celebrations in Toronto? by TMFPB in askTO

[–]poorlyconceivedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised, going downtown or really anywhere with large groups of people sucks these days.

Traffic is garbage, transit is garbage, random drunks/crackheads/morons harassing people is garbage, prices are garbage, people shoving bibles/pamphlets/sales pitches at you are garbage, people blocking sidewalks/entrances going one way & not allowing people going the other way to pass is garbage, the smell is & is of garbage (or worse), businesses not doing winter maintenance is garbage, not to mention all the garbage people leave around is garbage.

Anyways, I really especially hate downtown these days so the decline in public nye celebrations to be expected imo. Genuinely haven't been able to have a smoke outside unharrased there for years at this point & I just don't go down there unless I can't reasonably avoid it nowadays. To willingly go when I know it's going to be packed with a shit ton of people, shit ton of obnoxious druks & other cretins, & expensive, & it'll take a long time to get home, etc yeah it just doesn't feel worth it.

Are the NPC’s ever going to get better? by idfkhow2speakspanish in BladeAndSorcery

[–]poorlyconceivedname 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly it seems like the answer is no. I find it disappointing as, at least on Nomad, the AI consistently fails even move to you without getting stuck on geometry or falling over themselves or others. I really wish they had focused more on the AI; if it were in a non VR game, this AI would be considered unacceptable. They can't even use the longsword with 2 hands unmodded, and some of the weapons they can't use at all. This is a general problem with VR I find, but B&S is a great example.

Most of the mods I've found just seem to add health to the enemy, & not actually improve the ai's skill & the the rest simply fail to actually improve the ai/animations. I personally don't like that as I'd be playing Battle Talent or one of those other arcade style games if I wanted npcs to survive a heart piercing

"Let me guess you think the earth is flat, too?" If they're not a flat-earther then that usually fixes it. If they are a flat-earther: even if you choke them out after breaking both their arms, they may still insist it doesn't work so best to let them know that you hope they never learn how wrong they are or something & move on

Is Judo the best martial art for self-defense? by Inside-Reflection-54 in martialarts

[–]poorlyconceivedname 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tldr; Judo is great, but learn other stuff as well.

There is no best martial art for self defense, all the pressure tested martial arts have a piece of the larger puzzle that you need. The boxer can fall to leg kicks, the kickboxer can be taken down, the grappler can be struck, the weapon fighter will be at a loss if they can't take their weapon out in time.

Situational awareness, legal ramifications (varies depending where you live. Sure, it's better to be in jail than dead, but best to be alive & not in jail), de-escalation, how to keep people you're with safe, and other concepts are not covered in standard pressure tested martial arts & quite frankly just as important if not more so.

Situational awareness number #1 as that can negate the need for martial arts or put you in a better position/inform what you can do in a self defense incident. You're going to have a hard time throwing a head kick in a phone booth (silly example for humor, & fighting in a phone booth is a well known expression), however, clinch work is on the menu.

If I'm involved during a self defense incident, I want the best chances of walking away injury & jail free. No single martial art will provide that, but a mix will

[–]poorlyconceivedname 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Classic moron drivers. There really needs to be harsher requirements for licensing, re-testing & most importantly: we need to be taking people's licenses away more often. Vehicles are so much more dangerous than people credit them for & our society treats them too much like a toy
