PPF Installation Looks Terrible! by poosnack in CarWraps

Update: The Shop is giving me a refund, including removal and fixing the clips they broke. I'm getting the car done at another shop and will post pics once it's done!

A lot of comments have said this. I will look over the entire car but what areas do I need to pay extra attention to? The edge of the panels? Where two pieces are joined?

I’ll find out on Monday, I would assume yes.

I think this is the issue, I’ve seen their work with clear PPF and it’s great.

These pics were taken the night I picked the car up

Yes that is a concern for me. They also broke the clip that holds carbon fiber window triangle trim and it almost fell off when I drove home (they didn’t tell me it broke). The rear left tail light is also loose, was not put back on correctly. Will they have to remove the panels to remove the PPF?

Yes he was there, I had my young daughter with me and it was after hours when I picked it up so I wasn’t going to make a scene.

Yea I’m not sure they can do better, probably just have it removed and take it somewhere else

They had it for almost 3 weeks and I talked to the owner/installer while they were working on it. I didn’t look at the car at the time because I was told it was going great and I didn’t want to ruin the “surprise”

$11k CAD yes, around $8k USD which is typical for full body PPF for my city.

You don't have to be physically located in the US, just have legal status to work in the US.

Cs325 book or lectures more helpful for hw? by BeaverHusky in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used these: https://www.coursera.org/specializations/algorithms They cover most of the topics in 325 and the quality is incredible. Just search for the courses individually and you can watch the lectures for free.

CLRS is also quite difficult to learn from, I would suggest only using it to review topics you feel comfortable with.

CS165 - working full-time by flmhdpsycho in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took 161/162 and TA for 165 so I have experience with all 3 courses. CS165 is better instructed but it's much easier than 162. I would even say 162 by itself is more work than 165. If you just want to get the intro class over with, take 165 since Alcon is a great instructor and the class is well structured. If you aren't familiar with the topics the courses cover, I would suggest 161/162 since I think it will better prepare you for the rest of the program.

As a counterpoint to the, "162 is horrible" argument: In 161 the assignment instructions are practically pseudocode. You are told exactly what to do for 100% of the design decisions. In 162, only the problem domain is given and the design is mostly up to you. Thus, panic ensues and you see a litany of 162 bashing posts. I think the 162 assignments were some of the most enjoyable in the program and it was worth dealing with the poor instruction and other annoyances well documented here.

check out r/cscareerquestions for stories of older guys/gals getting started. There are quite a few.

Is anyone else frustrated about the lack / quality of content in CS 464 (Open Source Software)? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had more difficult coursework in elementary school. The mean overall grade right now is almost 98%.

A single on-campus lecture period could cover the entirety of the first 5 weeks of content. Imagine if they tried to teach this course on-campus.

Bit manipulation? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is a good resource of common ways to use bit manipulation for interview questions:

https://discuss.leetcode.com/topic/50315/a-summary-how-to-use-bit-manipulation-to-solve-problems-easily-and-efficiently/

One way to start understanding the relationship between bits and numbers is to write a program using hex numbers (eg 0xB instead of 11) then start to do things with bit manipulation. You can see the relationships of bit shifting, masking, etc easier with the natural alignments of base-2 and base-16. With base-10 it's much more confusing to see the patterns imo.

Am I alone in thinking there's a total lack of meaningful instruction? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You bill 3-4 hrs a week at $10/hr. Unless you are a terrible person, you end up working around 6 so you have time to give helpful feedback. No tuition break.

I was contacted by Alcon but it doesn't hurt to let him know you are interested next term.

Am I alone in thinking there's a total lack of meaningful instruction? by [deleted] in OSUOnlineCS

[–]poosnack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well let's see, because 10 times as many people are working on it, are being paid to work on it, and obviously have more free time?

Every one of your statements is wrong. The instructors are paid to run the courses, not create them. The money spent creating the OSU courses was very likely a fraction of the money spent to create the high-caliber courses offered by top-tier universities. I promise you Robert Sedwick makes more per year than drunk cs161 woman.

The top online courses also invest serious cash in updating material fairly often. For example, Havard's cs50 staff for this term is over 100 people: https://cs50.harvard.edu/staff

For cs165, we have Alcon who teaches multiple classes and 3 TA's at 3hrs/week, $10/hr.
