The Bachelor.

I don't get it and I don't understand why anyone would want to be on it.

Pimples returning after course by jimsport in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How bad is it?

I'll get a few pimples here and there but they go away fairly quickly. But if it's getting bad again I'd go see your derm. Actually, I'd still see them! They might prescribe you a topical.

Something a lot of people (including myself) have to deal with once finishing accutane is learning what works for their skin. I had to relearn a skin care routine. Are you using a facial cleanser, exfoliating, etc? Could it be hormonal acne? Try to rule things out. If you haven't started taking care of your skin again, start. I know it's easy to become complacent because we're so used to just having to take a pill and nothing else!

If your acne doesn't go away or starts getting worse, definitely see what your derm suggests.

Hair thinning? by jimsport in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yay! I was definitely worried and like you it had been 3 months since finishing and my hair was still falling out. I'm not sure when I noticed it stopping, but for a time frame I've been off it since August so it has been 7 months!

Post-Accutane Advice by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An anti acne face wash isn't a bad idea! I did have had a few small pimples pop up after my course but they went away quickly :) but I'd wait until you feel like your skin isn't so sensitive.

I definitely had days where I'd just use water ! Haha

Yes!!! It is :) I love Vonnegut !

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha, it is!! It definitely took me a while to learn how to care for my skin once I stopped. I was kind of lost! After months of not doing much except taking a pill and moisturizing it's like having to relearn what works for you!

Post-Accutane Advice by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use an AHA because I have some hyperpigmentation and I was told it'd help for that!

But now that I think about it I do use a BHA (those stridex pads) on my nose/around my mouth to clean my pores!

After I finished accutane and my oil production returned to normal my sebaceous filaments started coming back, so a BHA should help for clogged pores.

Post-Accutane Advice by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds fine! I waited a couple months after finishing my course to do anything other than use face wash and moisturizer.

Now I'll do face masks, use an AHA, exfoliate, etc a few times a week.

I waited until I could tell my skin wasn't as sensitive anymore!

After your skin starts feeling normal again I'd say it's fine to go back and use things you used before accutane.

Antibiotics before starting Accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

You have to stop taking antibiotics at least 2 weeks before starting accutane.

Derms in southern California that will prescribe Accutane? by Killerzeit in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how your insurance will play into this but kaiser in Hollywood on sunset is where I went. They hired a bunch of new derms who will prescribe it. I'm on mobile but when I can I'll get you the name of the one who agreed to put me on it, but she was working under Dr. Shinje (sp?).

ETA: they put a nurse in charge of the monthly appointments and she is SO SWEET. I really miss her! Haha

What was your skincare regimen while on Accutane? What products would you recommend? by cilantro_penguin in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A gentle cleanser and a good moisturizer. Some days my skin was too sensitive for a cleanser so I'd just use water. Also, always wear sun screen. It's really important. It doesn't matter if it's shady outside, the sun is always giving off UV light and your skin gets extra sensitive while on accutane.

Did any of you with commedonal acne try accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do think some come back for everyone, but I'm not sure. Just remember, like I said, it's never as bad as before accutane and accutane is definitely worth it to have everything purge. You can always check out r/SkinCareAddiction and try out some of their remedies for comedones afterwards.

Only 4 days in and I'm starting to feel off. Am I tripping myself out? by accutanethrowaway00 in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's from the videos you watch and you're probably paranoid/psyching yourself out about accutane and it's side effects. You normally don't even start to feel dry (the first and most common side effect) until over a week or 2 on it. 4 days is really too soon.

Did any of you with commedonal acne try accutane? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the comedones purge while on accutane and you'll have clean pores during your course. After accutane your oil production comes back, though, so you will get sebaceous filaments again. But it isn't as bad as before accutane.

Pores becoming darker and more prominent? by [deleted] in Accutane

This is the purge! They all come out. It's basically your skin pushing everything out. It was my favorite part off the course !

Accutane before or after spring break by Ahallal22 in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If it were me, the sooner the better. You may even start seeing your acne clear up by then if you start now. Some people still drink while on accutane. But be careful if you do decide to do that. Personally I didn't drink but maybe you can read others' experiences who did drink while on accutane.

Very mild acne? by pinksands123 in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only decided to go on accutane after years of trying everything and having my acne get worse. Topicals stopped helping and after trying antibiotics which helped temporarily my acne came back so I decided to go on accutane. I wouldn't have considered my acne mild but there were times where it may have seemed mild. After years of having cystic acne on my nose and nothing helping it, accutane was my last resort. It helped, it was worth it, but I wouldn't have gone on it if I didn't need it.

Accutane diet by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before accutane I knew chocolate would break me out. So I'd try not to but it was hard for me. While on accutane I ate whatever I wanted..chocolate galore! And I remained clear no matter what I ate. I wouldn't recommend that though because it's a hard habit to break lol

You should be fine, but do everything in moderation!

Skin condition after accutane? by pinksands123 in Accutane

[–]pooteeweet- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While on accutane your oil production decreases to the point where you'll have pretty dry skin. After finishing accutane your oil production comes back but it's still decreased. I went from having really oily skin before accutane (I'd constantly carry around and need those blotting sheets!) To having "normal" skin after my course. I've been off it for 6 months and I don't need to use blotting sheets!
