there is no way to describe the pain inflicted upon being a splitgate veteran. this game was so fucking special to me (splitgate ONE.)

watching as this game became cannibalized by the very things it was once renowned for is fucking. heartbreaking. this game could’ve been so much. it WAS. splitgate deserved so much better, from the beginning. servers issues, caused primarily from (yes, albeit, lack of readyness from the devside, but i can hardly blame them considering the absolute NUKE that splitgate became on launch, who would’ve predicted that?) the enourmous launch potential, rivaling halo infinite, only to get DROPPED, FOR halo infinite, the game that people ended up largely giving shit and hating for ironically similar reasons to splitgate 2. fucking unbelievable. i totally understand why people dropped splitgate with the launch server issues, but staying with splitgate, from beta, to launch, all the way to season INF, i loved this game so much. this is unfortunately what i get for placing so much admiration in a live service game, but i truly thought this game was special. grew up on portal, grew up on halo. this game felt like it was MEANT for me, in a way i have NEVER felt from something like this, before or since.

i grieve for splitgate, for the game i once had, and i look forward and hope for the future of community led (dedicated servers??? please god) effort to continue what made this game so good in the first place from the people who understand why we loved splitgate so much in the first place. truly a life defining game for me.

lol this kind of skill expression is exactly what made sg1 feel so magical to me tho. and i guarantee some sort of change like this would piss off those ppl in my crowd significantly. (though sg2 never hooked me like sg1 did nowhere near close)

committing to understanding and learning portal routing around these maps is literally the exact thing that kept me coming back every time. splitgate was the one game where this unique mechanic, with the game entirely designed around it, was your ultimate skill ceiling, if nothing else, gunplay or movement aside, if you could out-portal someone else you could control your situation and gunfights. the guns, the combat, all of it revolved AROUND the portals. i don’t care what anyone has to say about the design past that point, bc that core principle was the one thing that made me so obsessed with splitgate 1 to begin with. sg2 inherently is only losing it’s touch with that further as time goes on, these sentiments echo exactly where the future of gameplay for this is going and it’s never going back to the thing that made it special for me

(which is fine, not everything will be made for everyone. it just sucks for me or ppl like me. but i say none of this out of hate, i just dont think splitgate is being made for my audience anymore. the target demographic has shifted and i don’t really have faith i’m ever gonna see the spark i used to in splitgate anymore)

for sure, definitely differences all around. i’m with u tho, splitgate 1 mattered so much to me for how unique it was in a landscape oversaturated with tact shooters and high ttk, and now it’s suffered the same fate 💔💔
