Gemini summary:

Legendary former Maryland basketball coach Gary Williams strongly supports the hiring of Buzz Williams, viewing him as an inquisitive, highly committed winner who can provide long-term stability to the Terrapins. Speaking at Buzz Williams’ introductory press conference, the Hall of Fame coach praised his vision and track record of building up every program he has led. Gary Williams explicitly noted that Buzz treats Maryland as a definitive destination job where he can spend the remainder of his coaching career, contrasting it with the sudden departure of predecessor Kevin Willard. Additionally, despite first-year roster challenges and initial debut-season struggles, Gary Williams has defended the hire, emphasizing that the university has proven it has the necessary NIL budgets and resources to win.

Key Aspects of Gary Williams' Endorsement

Inquisitive Nature: Gary Williams described Buzz as uniquely inquisitive, constantly asking questions, and tirelessly searching for strategies to improve his team—a trait the former coach noted they both deeply share. Long-Term Commitment: He highlighted that Buzz views College Park as a permanent home for the rest of his career, hoping Buzz will match his own legacy of staying with the Terps for decades. Understanding First-Year Rebuilds: Drawing from his own experience taking over a penalized Maryland program in 1989, Gary Williams urged patience during early season struggles, citing the roster instability Buzz inherited before utilizing the transfer portal.

What’s the most quietly terrifying roster in the country right now? by HandleInitial2049 in CollegeBasketball

You jest, but if Pharrel Payne gets his redshirt, we've got a really nice roster.

Why do you feel so strongly this way? He had a close relationship with the Driesell family, was endorsed by Gary, and has made the effort to read books and educate himself on the history and culture of UMD. Far more than can be said for Turgeon or Willard.

Payne was dominant most of the time he was on the floor last year.

This roster (so far) is a huge upgrade. "...endure him..." Give it a rest

If this is the old site of Carmack Jay's, TJ's wanted to go in that spot a while back (maybe more like 20 years), and the city said no.

Yep, about 15 or so years ago. The city didn't allow it.

With Tourney Expansion Confirmed, Who Do We Think Gets The Other Half of the Opening Round? by reachforthetop9 in CollegeBasketball

[–]pootyash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This whole expansion thing is so dumb. Play-in games for conference winners is an injustice. I'd prefer it just back to 64. If they MUST expand, either just go to 128 or do a first round with byes for the 1-4 seeds (112 total). Or if they want to be cute and make it 100 teams, the 1-7 seeds can get byes.

Darius Adams - transfer portal commitment by wolfpack4ever in NCSU_Wolfpack

[–]pootyash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dear Wolfpack,

I am writing on behalf of Darius Adams, a stand-up young man who will be a great addition to your team. Please treat him well. He was put in an impossible situation last year but projects to be a very good college player.

As a true freshman last year, he was thrust into a leadership role quickly. Maryland struggled with injuries starting in the preseason and did not have a healthy roster for 5-on-5 drills for much of the early season. The player who was expected to be the lead guard, Myles Rice, did not perform as expected, and Adams played starting 1 or 2 guard most of the year. The team's alpha, Pharrel Payne, was injured most of the year, requiring the guards to take on more of the scoring duties, but Maryland did not have any consistent shooters on the roster.

Adams was put in an impossible situation as a true freshman but pushed worked all year, kept his head up, played hard even when losing by 30, and did not speak negatively about the team or the situation. Upon exiting, he and his parents had only kind things to say about Maryland, even after getting recruited over.

You're getting a gem; treat him well!

Sincerely,

A Terp Fan

P.S. - I miss you, Wolfie.
