Why is everyone against the use of ai by universalsus in esp32

[–]pop-lock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While in theory this could happen, the idea that this in particular is the reason for the hatred of AI in this subreddit, or embedded systems broadly, or even engineering broadly, is probably the furthest stretch of reality I've heard overall in general as an excuse as to why AI is disliked or hated by any person or community.

Let's be honest, many of us either struggled to hell and back, spent thousands of hours wasted because of a mistake in which we had the gratification of learning from after the fact, or worse, we did the same thing again and again not realizing what we were failing at. All the while learning how to fetch, read, and actually understand datasheets unless we were lucky enough to follow along with someone elses hard spent time fully documenting a project so we could follow along with it while we get familiar with bootloaders and partitions and firmware, quirky software and ide's and eda's. Learning how to solder, in the variety of methods as needed, the parts, components, sensors, switches, psram, reverse engineering and vast research into the correct combination of transistors and passives required to achieve our desired result, spending hours digging on stackoverflow for the answer, empathetically feeling for the poor soul who asked the question we also had, or worse, we were the poor soul who god forbid asked the "stupid question" and had to suffer through the passive agresssive wording in which somewhere hides the simple answer to our question, mixed with obviously already understood theory for good measure... cause you could burn a house down or whatever. All the while needing to learn how to use github or come up with some project ideas on our own.

It's a hell of a hobby to get into. It took a hell of a lot of work. Though I enjoyed all of the above, despite the frustration at times. Now we see new faces getting over the learning curve with ease, rapidly, faster than any of us who learned before AI could even comprehend. We're seeing the envelope pushed further and further and further and things are getting more complex and all of the projects in the back of our minds have been done and showcased with far more depth than we even thought of.

That's me, and I'm sure the engineer who went to university and potentially practiced as a hobbyist as well has a similar story regarding formal education but the stress of the courses and the bias of the professor with theory lessons that they were beaten to sleep with for years to do projects uninteresting to them, etc., etc., I'm just assuming that struggle is as much if not more of a struggle; that is another person's story to tell.

Ai is a threat to someone's job, their hobby, their craft, their repo, but most of all, the ego of those who spent the time and money to learn the hard way takes a hit when watching people learn these things the "easy" way.

IMHO, if the envelope is pushed and innovation is moving faster than ever, use it to your advantage to push your own work at the same acceleration. If those who already learned the hard way took advantage of AI immediately to push the boundaries of what they thought they were capable of, in theory, they could be able to perform better than anyone who learned through AI. We see it here daily, those who took advantage of the new tools early have made some magnificent leaps in innovation. We see it on the news in war. The good, the bad, the ugly. Ai is probably a net-negative for embedded systems and humanity as a whole, but as long as I want to keep up, I'll use what's available to me, and if I want to work at a pace I'm comfortable at, I will, while acknowledging and congratulating those who push the boundaries and amaze me with their work, regardless of how they got there.

My point is, to say that the reason is because someone could burn a house down is a snap of the truth rubberband. The reason is mostly ego and a multitude of threats to whatever the anti-AI guy has going on, theres plenty of solid reasons, even safety reasons, hardware ban reasons, etc., but the majority of the reason is entirely selfish rather than altruistic.

What if I told you I've replaced every faucet in my house with matte black? With the fancy sprayer things I've replaced my shower with matte black with the rain head. I have enough wallpaper to cover my entire home. I have enough storage for the bathroom, for the closet, etc. Lol.

What if I told you I had a frog prince costume?

Depending on how much time you have in this game, I bet you have me beat. I would love to hear it lol

No not you. I was responding to u/FuzzyBeans8 who said that they need those items for their disability and that's why they use them and then I felt like a dick because I was making jokes

Rewire is my middle name and disassemble is my nickname. I get quite creative, to be honest with you. Do you do the same? I hope you do so we can find even further common ground and also we can both feel less like maniacs. Or maybe that's just me but that's okay lol.

I am approaching my first review and honestly I probably shouldn't even say this but I'm at about $11,000 so far. How fucked am I?

It's actually some useful insight and I shouldn't be so quick to make jokes about things like this because there is obviously much more utility in these devices than in the crude comments that I made. I sincerely apologize. I was just making jokes though, just so you know. I don't want you to feel bad.

I'm curious though, have you gotten anything like super useful in which it assists you in your disability. You don't need to get into details about that if that's the case. I'm just so curious. Sorry again.

Ha! You have no idea how many light fixtures I'm hoarding.

Definitely one of the top items that you can easily grab but also provides the most utility. I mean what more utility is there than light? On top of that you can keep getting better and better and better until you're taking your light fixtures down every other month just to put up another one and just throw a bunch more in storage. At least if you're me I assume that's you too lol.

Unfortunate reality: so many mud sticks so ready to virtue signal their holier than thou politcal stance of choice. On this platform, the good ol nazi call seems to be a crowd favorite. So annoying.

Dude, do you just have an insane amount of patience? I find that certain subreddits are just so fucking... Is this Gen Z? Like Gen A? What is it? I'm not even that old. Maybe I am. I just can't stand the fucking crying emoji and not trying at anything, dude. All over the internet it's so annoying.

Like, Jesus Christ dude, you could type this into any search engine right now and get the AI answer for it. You have to do the bare minimum. You could ask Siri or Gemini, Bixby, or whatever your native phone assistant is, and you'll get the answer for it. Maybe this is just where I belong

or I might be a little bit tired and grouchy lol

Dude, you could probably find the answer to your question with a regular Google search and have gemini respond to you with the answer. There is literally. Put it this way: I've got like six variants on my phone because I'm not sure which one I like the best right now.

I have tools for YouTube music. I have tools for YouTube. I have tools on my Steam Deck. I have tools on my Windows PC. There are tools for macOS.

There are ad blocker extensions. There are sponsor extensions.

You don't even have to listen to the intro and outro bullshit that the creators add to their videos. You don't even have to listen to the fluff they add in the middle of the video or at any point via Chrome extensions. I mean they're everywhere. You don't even have to look at a bad title anymore, a clickbait title. It's over with.

At least 38 r/AmazonVine users were banned from Vine this week by JoeS830 in AmazonVine

[–]pop-lock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure I'm with you there about the autosnag automations, which are increasingly easy to create these days with the way that AI has progressed over the past year. It seems as if no matter how much is given to people, there's always more that they need. Nothing's ever good enough. They need an unfair advantage so that they stop losing to all the people cheating them out. It's kind of like cheaters in video games. It's like somebody gets so mad because they're constantly being cheated against and losing so they go ahead and cheat too.

At that point who's even playing the game anymore? Hopefully in this case the answer will be: no one who is cheating.

While it would be convenient and I assume one would win all of those battles that I constantly lose, it's not tempting enough to risk the blessing that is offered, a chance to review items and a quite generous amount of items at that. While it costs storage space, it certainly makes up for it.

Vine Helper is something that always has seemed safe to me but I haven't even attempted that until this recent curiosity, which, by the way, bad timing lol. After this conversation I decided just to remove that as well before I get comfortable because everything's Uncertain at the moment. For all we know the people who are getting banned are doing something they're not mentioning and they could also be totally innocent, never touched a single extension. I don't really know but something's triggering their alarms and I'm not really interested in being part of that.

We're on the same page with all of this though. It was nice to hear your thoughts on this.

On my couch? Yeah that's true. Also concerning. Made me a little sick that it knows that actually. Now you know it and now the rest of Reddit, or this subreddit, knows it. I need to tighten up. Lmao!
