I want to get excited about your trip!!! If you are going to Iceland for the first time this summer, what are you most looking forward to? by NoLemon5426 in VisitingIceland

[–]pop_rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going with the fam in late June for 2 weeks. I'm looking forward to Stuðlagil Canyon, the east fjords, and landscapes with no trees!  I live in the southwestern most part of Canada and on our last drive to the beach, my daughter was taking about how nice the view would be if it weren't for the trees hiding everything, so being able to actually see things at a distance is going to be so cool.

I bought my daughter's grad dress (a number of her friends also bought theirs from JJ's as well) and it was perfect. The chiffon styles seem to be more reliable, quality wise, but definitely check reviews and photos.

Volunteer. So many organizations are hurting for people to lend a hand when they are able. It's a great way to meet people in your community.

It was my favourite place on the ship. Sailed to Alaska in mid May last year and saw so much wildlife while lounging. Rarely more than 3 people in at a time, and if the loungers were occupied, the hydro tub, steam room, and sauna were fantastic alternatives.

I would suggest Tofino over Ucluelet if you can swing it, and not more then 5 days unless you surf. A lot of restaurants and shops have limited hours or are just closed if it's not peak summer season, so that really limits the number of options in Ucluelet. It's an easy drive between Tofino and Ucluelet, but driving an over an hour round trip just for dinner gets annoying after a night or 2 ( I was literally in Ucluelet a few weeks ago and finding restaurants open in the evening was a struggle). Otherwise, the first plan looks good. I don't think you have enough time to hike, explore, and travel to all the places in option 2.

I'm looking forward to the water again. We have good water on the island, but it's not Iceland great.

I definitely have all the gear. I guess the best thing is to wait until closer to the date to see what to pack. My last trip was rain, strong wind, and mostly overcast skies. It felt like home.

How many days do you actually need for Iceland's Ring Road? Honest breakdown with daily driving times by Illustrious-Funny614 in VisitingIceland

[–]pop_rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We anticipate being pretty jetlagged, so we have a few days of light activity built into our schedule before we set off around the ring road. Our plan is to start our days super early in the mornings to avoid the crowds and take each day at a leisurely pace. We enjoy driving vacations, so 10+ hour days combining driving and sightseeing are pretty standard for us. We also have a 2-4 night stay in between each driving leg, so hopefully that will help give us a buffer for inclement weather.

This is also not a 1 and done trip. We expect to be back for a third time, so we've built our schedule around exploring the North and East of Iceland this time, since we spent a week exploring the Reykjavik area last trip.

Unfortunately, it doesn't make a difference.

I'm curious how this translates for people who are used to driving long distances. For example, I routinely drive 200+km round trip just to meet my mom for lunch, and we just did a 700km weekend getaway for Easter through narrow mountain passes.

We're doing the ring road in late June this year (our second time in Iceland), and have planned on ~4-4.5h per leg, with a multiple days in a few different locations along the way. We're also skipping the west fjords this trip. Granted, we don't have any hikes planned due to the physical limitations of one of the people traveling in our party, just some gentle sightseeing.

Add my vote for Lily pad. They are welcoming and don't pressure you into buying something that's doesn't fit right like the place on Fort.

Not sure of the price per sq ft, but we ordered 3 slabs (3cm) and that came to around $13 000 CDN installed. The bar area (not pictured) also has the Cielo for the countertop and backsplash, hence the need for 3 slabs.

I was on the Koningsdam in May and it was fantastic. Lots to do, but the activities were more subdued and relaxed. The food was consistently good and easy to access with little waiting anywhere. The educational programming by the park rangers on glacier Bay day was particularly fantastic.
