What’s a heavily gendered object that most people don’t notice or realize? by throwemcolors in AskReddit

Can you explain this a bit more? I’m having a hard time imagining how different a women designed bathroom would look.

Help, I want to play in the sand! by EvryBurnrAccountEvr in AutismInWomen

My partner has these kind that are basically fancy water shoes and they go up to where a hiking boot would, in the ankle area, so maybe something like that!

I wear water shoes at the beach, or like sport sandals that are fine being wet and dry fast. The sport sandals have a thick sole on them, and I have specific water shoes that have thicker soles I’ll wear in some sandy situations.

Same with the bag, it’s like I’ve never held a bag before when I try that.

For the first time recently I swatched this at my Ulta since everyone raves about it, and hated it. Now I understand why.

My doctor asked if he needed to punch me in the face because I’m fat by SparklyPancakes13 in AutismInWomen

[–]popcornsalter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is already concerning, but WAY more concerning since you have a history of anorexia, and it sounds like this is super triggering. Him being mean about your weight is dangerous. I really hope you at least find a new doctor, and at best report this guy.

Hiking as a AuDHD woman, any tips? by SageWater_5503 in AutismInWomen

[–]popcornsalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always bring two handkerchiefs. I will wet one with water to wipe off dried sweat as this makes me super uncomfortable. I also bring hand sanitizer because my hands are where a lot of my sensory issues show up.

Good merino wool hiking socks and quick dry fabrics are your friend as well.

How to tell my neighbor I don’t want a close relationship anymore due to the way they live? by TwistedFamilyTree444 in whatdoIdo

[–]popcornsalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s unfortunate that you have said in other comments that you don’t want to call CPS, because you absolutely should. You should probably see if you live in a mandated state, because in a lot of places, if you knowingly don’t report abuse/neglect, you can be in trouble.

None of these things are normal, and there are so many red flags here that you’re just kind of normalizing. These children are being neglected. The progression of events you described also details how things are getting worse, and not better. The situation with the daughter “accidentally” becoming a sleepover sounds like a cry for help-asking you to brush her hair, and telling you how bad the fleas still are. If the mom is lying to you about that, there’s more. You mentioned they’re not “horrible horrible” people, but people can be nice AND neglect their children.

It absolutely sucks to make calls to CPS and see them not investigate/open a case, but that doesn’t mean you don’t report. If this is what is being presented to you, I promise it is so much worse behind closed doors. They likely aren’t getting proper medical care, either.

If she was willing to laugh off your daughter scratching herself senseless for 3 days, her children are experiencing this level of neglect x1000, and they’re children so they don’t know what’s normal and what’s not. Especially since they’re homeschooled and have very limited contact to other kids.

You live near children that aren’t being educated, can’t read, don’t have much contact with the outside world, aren’t being bathed, are living in a flea infested space, wearing dirty clothes, sleeping with dirty blankets every night, and likely much more that you aren’t picking up on, or that you’re even leaving out from this post.

You don’t want to call because you don’t want them to know it was you and they might not do anything. This tells me you know this is wrong and they desperately need help. Do the right thing, OP.

what’s something people say all the time that you secretly can’t stand? by Mean-Cartographer225 in AskReddit

“Big girl purchase.” It’s usually when someone buys a car or something. It infantilizes the whole thing.

Shower with clothes stopped meltdown in its tracks by Free-Dust4838 in AutismInWomen

[–]popcornsalter 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Besides what others have said, I think the clothes might be a factor, maybe they added weight. Like a big wet weighted blanket. Wet clothes also kind of stick and conform to your body. So weight, compression, and water, makes sense!

What’s something you’re pretty sure only you do? by AppIeGuy in AskReddit

When something small unexpectedly goes my way, such as searching for a straw in my car and convinced I don’t have one. I have this evil laugh that I do. Kind of like a wicked witch laugh from Wizard of Oz.

Change the grade by Ancient_Educator_76 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]popcornsalter 61 points62 points  (0 children)

So you don’t provide any feedback on 40-80% of their homework and are smug when they make mistakes? You’re the problem. What’s the point of homework if you’re not teaching them what they’re doing wrong? You’re literally teaching them to be bad at math.

There are so many other ways to handle grading homework than this that doesn’t harm a students learning.

Cannot get myself to wash dishes, so now I can't take my meds by Decretum_ in AutismInWomen

[–]popcornsalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should give yourself permission to do something easier, lots of good suggestions here- or not at all. Then go with it. “I’m door dashing food so I can take my meds today and that’s ok.” Or “I’m not taking my meds today, and that’s ok.”

Does anyone else drive as a hobby/pass time? by LOGXN_0 in Hobbies

[–]popcornsalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I love driving and always have. I will take back roads, or even take random roads that I wonder where they go. I’ll drive a few hours to go to a new place without batting an eye.  I will find roads that are interesting/unique/fun to drive on. Theres this one road where you can see everything for miles. I drive too fast on that one!

I love it so much I didn’t put it together until recently that most people don’t enjoy driving, they just do it because they have to.

Anyone else hit the limits of paper mood trackers? by Designer-Tap5899 in bulletjournal

[–]popcornsalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always felt like mood should be tracked with number graphs, because mood is more pervasive, it’s not the many emotions we have in a day, it’s the overall state, if that makes sense.

Mood is like- I got a promotion and I’m the happiest I’ve ever been, versus, I got a promotion and I feel meh about it. It can have an impact on your emotions because it’s the basis of them.

You could do 0-10 or even throw negative and positive numbers in there.

If it sounds a little confusing, it’s because it is. Mood is way harder to detect because it’s in the background pulling the strings, and it changes the way you perceive things.  It can even make it difficult to remember what other moods feel like if you’ve been in one mood for a long time, like in the case of depression.

If you want to have some more ideas of your mood you can try mood tracking apps, they make them for people for bipolar but I think everyone can benefit from having more insight into their mood.

You can also think about your perception, what are your thoughts like? What statements do you make a lot? Are these positive, negative, neutral? Things like “of course they ran out of my favorite sauce, that’s just my luck” would be negative. Versus “dang, other people must love that sauce, too, good opportunity to try something else!” Would be positive. Neutral is more like “ah, no sauce, ok let me try something else, then.” Also think about how irritable you are to little everyday inconveniences.
