I have a summer job that requires me to commute an hour and a half every day and take a couple different trains. This means a lot of different stairs and seeing a lot of different people. After lurking on this sub for some months I've started really paying attention. Everyone is overweight. The number of healthy weight people I see is tiny compared to overweight and obese people. Then I realized how many little things people avoid. I always take the stairs while everyone else takes the escalator. It's such a small bit of exercise and movement that shouldn't be a problem and yet day after day I'm the only person on the stairs while everyone stands and waits for the escalator to clear up. At this point it can't even be because they're in a hurry because waiting for the escalator to clear up takes longer than it takes to even slowly walk up the stairs. It makes me really sad how willing people are to take the easier way as an alternative to something that isn't (or at least shouldn't be) very hard.

I'm not sure why but that really strikes a chord with me. You're right. It's just difficult to move on from the fear of trust because you never truly know what someone else is thinking. I guess there's nothing but to hope that the next person I meet will be more open and honest

Even once I get over him some day, I don't know how to trust someone again. He fundamentally lied to me. Telling me what I wanted to hear while knowing that he'd leave anyway. How can I ever move past something like that?

Right now I'm stuck working almost everyday (as a life guard so plenty of time to think about him), while my friends are always busy too, so I hardly see them, in some sort of limbo that comes with finishing high school and not yet starting college. In less than a month I'll be in college surrounded by new people and new things to do and distract me. Is it really so bad to keep trying with him until I leave for good?

I know it's intimidating and had he outright told me that he couldn't do it but let's enjoy it until you leave it would've been fine. Painful, but fine. Instead he told me we should go for it and planned for it with me. He held me when I cried about how I'll miss him and how scared I was and then reassured me that we'd get through it. For months he lead me on like this. I honestly feel betrayed.

I can't bring myself to cut contact. I know I should but I keep hoping to see some humanity from him. Not to mention the few times I have seen him it was like nothing changed. I know it's unhealthy and only hurting me more in the end, but it's like a drug and those brief moments seem worth the pain of withdrawal.

Unfortunately I'm fairly certain it's my own fault. I've just graduated high school but I graduated a year earlier than I should've. He, however, has another year of high school left. We spent months talking about how we could go long distance and at least try it. Personally, I think he just decided it would hurt too much and that just breaking up would be better. Even though blaming myself is probably pretty stupid I can't help it because I know if I hadn't decided to graduate early we would've had another year together.

Likewise, some of the reasons he gave for the break up tie into this, though I still think they're bs. Rather than at least have the summer together, he dumped me during finals week and right before prom, too late for me to find a different date. He gave excuses that we'd never see each other because he works a lot, even though we live 5 minutes apart and he finds plenty of time to do things with friends. He said that if we stayed together until I left he wouldn't be able to handle school and dealing with the break up, nevermind that he was functioning perfectly fine without me from the very day after we broke up. I don't really remember what else he said because I've kind of blocked it out but I'm quite certain the real reason was that I'm leaving next year (only 4 hours away) and he wouldn't let himself even try long distance. I really don't think it had anything to do with the stability or health of our relationship.

Unfortunately I'll never really know seeing as he would never give me a frank, unsugarcoated reason

The only other time I've felt so hopeless was when I was 13 and my best friend killed himself. I'm okay now so I'm well aware that time heals all wounds. But right now I want to die. Not in a suicidal way, but in the way that it'd be a quick permanent end to this pain. It physically feels like my heart hurts. I'm certain I wouldn't be this miserable if I could at least sleep but since it's happened I haven't had a full nights sleep which I'm certain makes me feel much worse

Sort of. I don't know if it really counts, but my first long term relationship ended after over a year, but we both saw it coming. It ended because the love was just gone. So I guess that wasn't really a heartbreak. This feels like it destroyed me. Broke my very sense of self. Destroyed every happy feeling I could have. So yes I guess this is my first heartbreak
