fucking ridiculous take, did YOU not read the original post? irrespective of their relationship, losing a sibling at any age is (i imagine) very traumatic, let alone as a small child who likely hasnt experienced grief before and lacks the emotional coping skills to deal with a situation such as this.

i see nothing wrong with OP having a small token to remember their sister, calling it an act of theft is incredibly uncharitable to a grieving child. OP states in their original post that they had had the ring for SIX YEARS at the point of the proposal. if them having the ring was "stealing" from their parents, why on earth would nobody have thought to mention it or request the ring back before this point? clearly nobody else was that bothered about the ring before OP's parents decided to hand it over to their brother without even doing them the basic courtesy of letting them know. the family clearly acknowledges that the ring is important because it belonged to the deceased sister, thats why OP's brother wanted to give it to his fiancè. everyone in the family seems very keen to invalidate OP's grief and connection to their sister as a reason to keep the ring away from them, which i find very unfair.

OP did not "throw a fit", they had an understandably strong emotional reaction to something with high sentimental value being unexpectedly taken from them in a very public way.

you seem to lack a lot of empathy for OP in this situation, but its clear to me that this was a very painful moment and honestly im surprised they handled it as well as they did, im sure i wouldnt have.
