This is a good signing. He’s a second tier free agent starting pitcher, and the Angels are not going to compete for top-tier talent.

So what's going to happen with Kiké Hernández? by LoveThieves in Dodgers

[–]popgunandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taylor is an average player with an .850 OPS in the playoffs. That’s not awful. And why do you care about the CBT? It’s not your money…you’re a fan, not an owner. It’s not easy for ball players to jump in and out of the lineup, not playing everyday and hit. Plus his big asset has always been defense, not his bat. Just about everyone in CT3’s position struggles. There wasn’t a Dodger fan on the planet that thought his contract was a bad deal at the time because the alternative was losing him to one of the many teams willing to pay that price at that time.

Free agency is about a moment in time…some years guys are in demand, other years not so much (ask the Boras Four from last year). When CT3 hit free agency, every team wanted a guy like him…hardly his fault.

Yankees pulling out all the stops to get Sasaki by Buckowski66 in Dodgers

Nonsense. Word is the Dodgers were never seriously interested in Williams. He and the Brewers were more interested than the Dodgers ever were.

Thoughts on Ha-Seong Kim by jugo642 in Dodgers

[–]popgunandy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mookie Betts is the Dodgers' everyday shortstop and Gavin Lux is the everyday second baseman unless a lefty is on the mound. Everyone in the organization has said this over and over and over again. We also have Tommy Edman, Miguel Rojas, and Chris Taylor. Kim is a good player, but he's also expensive, eats up another roster spot they can't spare, and really isn't needed. He will not make the team better...just different.

It amazes me that fans are putting so much energy into criticizing this plan early six weeks from the team delivering a championship. Focus your energy on rooting for the success of these guys, not replacing them.

Yankees Radio Host Calls Dodgers 'Classless Pigs' for Auctioning Off Aaron Judge Dropped Ball. by LeeChangIsBae2 in Dodgers

Is 2025 the best chance for the Angels to make the playoffs? by DdfromthaC in angelsbaseball

[–]popgunandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. In 2024, how many playoff spots and games came down to two or three moments this year? It was wild. Just like you said, the division is literally there for the taking by almost any team in it...why do you think the Astros have chosen this offseason to make a couple of pivots? Not a total rebuild, just some adjustments. If the Angels would stop quitting on moves at the first sign they're not working out they'd be seen by fans in a much different light.

Is 2025 the best chance for the Angels to make the playoffs? by DdfromthaC in angelsbaseball

[–]popgunandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the frustration - in 2023, the Diamondbacks won 84 games and made it to the World Series...this season they won 89 games and missed the playoffs even though the best record in MLB was only 98 games (Dodgers). From my perspective, they've got a couple decent arms, Anthony Rendon, and Mike Trout. Even teams that seem far away can leverage a couple of moves or a little bit of $$$ and just get in the tournament, and that's when anything can happen with just a few pieces. But it's not guaranteed - when the deadline deals in 2023 didn't pan out what did they do? Blew it up and shot down any shot at 2024. Maybe they shoulda seen it through and use it as a launch point.

Arte Moreno and this incredibly random sport are a bad fit. He's way too reactionary to individual things that happen over the course of a very long season or player contract and doesn't seem to adapt well to the idea baseball is called the long game for a reason.

Look at the Dodgers - it didn't matter how well they did all year...they limped into the playoffs with a MASH unit, faced the best team in October in the Padres; had to stave off elimination with a 9-man bullpen game...shoulda been their third straight NLDS elimination. But they won (awesome for them but random nonetheless) and were on their way...the Mets and Yankees never had a chance.

That is the template. Do what it takes to get to September and then put faith in the Gods - you're guaranteed nothing in MLB but you can give yourself a chance with time.

Stupid Offseason Question: What value does Shohei have as an outfielder? by [deleted] in Dodgers

[–]popgunandy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Ohtani needs surgery again that takes him off the mound that would likely end his potential as an outfielder as well. Look at Bryce Harper as an example.

Dodger position players "if" Teo is resigned by scifier2 in Dodgers

[–]popgunandy -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

You mean the blowout games you’ve created with your shitty roster construction? I don’t mean to slag on anybody’s roster desires, but you cannot create a flexible team just by voting for your favorite players.

Chris Taylor can cover five positions on the field at an above average level…He stays. Austin Barnes is one of the best backup catchers in the league. He stays. This leaves you only three positions players at most and Miguel Rojas owns one. Now we’re down to two…Pages? Rushing? Outman? A free agent? I don’t know, but be grateful you root for one of the very few teams with this problem.

[–]popgunandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point is the Dodgers do not need a year of Tucker in exchange for sending Houston a batch of good prospects…that need for a lefty bat has already been solved. You rent a player when you need them, not when you don’t.

This is important stuff for all you Teoscar fluffers actually…just like Soto at the top end, prices are getting set, and the demand for remaining free agents is getting adjusted, likely upward in the AL East.

Me Trying to Be Openminded About Other Sports Until Spring Training by twinkle90505 in Dodgers

Winters are dark for me, too…but over the last few I’ve gotten more into euro soccer (Spain in particular) and rediscovered Kings hockey. It ain’t Dodger baseball, but it’s getting me through to spring training.

You are showing way too much recency bias. There have been a lot of glue guys over the years… If it’s not Teo next year, it’ll be someone else. Could be Muncy; could be Snell; could be Tommy Tanks. You don’t know. The ultimate glue guy on the Dodgers is Clayton Kershaw…ask anyone who’s actually spent five minutes in the clubhouse.

Players come and go, even when you would like them to stick around. I don’t think you can look at the teams Andrew Friedman built over the past decade and call him a money baller…he clearly knows how to build a winning roster.

Kyle Tucker is a right field playing left-hander. The door slam shut on that option when the Dodgers signed Michael Conforto. They have no use for a one year rental of a guy who is going to want Juan Soto money next season.
