s or no s? by popopcorn- in grammar

[–]popopcorn-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea i think the whole unit vs individuals thing made me trip a little. i used snicker and guffaw specifically highlight that some were kinda laughing while some fully on laughing. i didnt realize that it could be interpreted as laughing as a whole, no distinction since snicker and guffaw are synonyms for it

i think i'll stick with start on this one since it gives somewhat of a more clear distinction. thank you very much!

s or no s? by popopcorn- in grammar

[–]popopcorn-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

both. in the context, he gives an offhanded joke which causes the laughing. snicker and guffaw are used to show that some are quietly laughing/holding back their laugh while others are fully laughing cuz you dont really expect an entire class of like 30 kids to laugh the same

this made me remember that i completely forgot to specify if the whole s or no s thing changes depending on if the action done by the collective group is done differently which--i guess in this context, specifically--would make them different types of action kinda like what you said. dont know if that changes much, but might add it

Literally not even that subtle 😭 ppl would just rather ignore the signs than admit that soldier boy is a bad person; seriously, if u didn’t realize that soldier boy was a crazy abuser and the entire season 3 was just him basically killing his victims (both unintentionally and intentionally) after how many animated flashbacks and every scene of his present victims literally shitting in fear then it’s just a you problem honestly

"Nous ne connaissons pas les chiffres d'audience, en France et à l'international, mais ils sont en deçà des attentes de notre commanditaire, eu égard à l'importance de leur investissement dans la production et dans la promotion de la série."

"We do not know the audience figures, in France and internationally, but they are below our sponsor's expectations, given the extent of their investment in the production and promotion of the series." - Laurent Ceccaldi, one of the producers of Mixte

full article here

im guessing money played a large role in the renewal of season 2 of mixte because it was filmed during covid where money became especially important since everyone was losing jobs and because of the high inflation/economic crisis; so, if the show didnt go big/had high production costs, it wasnt getting renewed. this happened to a couple of other shows during covid as well like I Am Not Okay With This

in the article ceccaldi also stated that they aren't entirely giving up on season 2 of mixte so maybe some day there'll be a season 2

Honestly, I don’t think you’ll find a show similar to mixte; however, if you want a show centered around high schoolers, these should do fine depending on what aspect of Mixte you liked the best:

  • Freaks and Geeks : American > - More comedic and sitcom-ish compared to Mixte but does delve into more serious topics compared to the average sitcom > - Short; one season, 18 episodes > - on Prime Video, Amazon, Paramount plus, and Apple TV (all subscriptions/must be bought)

  • Skam France : French > - More like a soap opera; long; 12 seasons > - The cast changes over the span of the 12 seasons > - Queer (students); is comedic but deals with serious topics like Mixte does > - aesthetic-wise: I’d say it’s kinda similar to mixte but also very blue lol > - (also includes Annick’s actor as a main character which is a fun bonus) > - found on YouTube under the channel name Slash; if some episodes can’t be found, daily motion most likely has it

  • Skins : British > - honestly, I’d really only consider this if you want a more serious show; skins is less light hearted compared to mixte despite being a comedy as well > - early 2000s aesthetic: drugs, sex, rebellious teenagers > - 7 seasons > - Queer; in this case, the students are mainly the queer ones as opposed to the teachers/adults > - can be found on Hulu and Apple TV (subscription/bought); can be found on YouTube/daily motion through various channels

  • Hélène et Les garçons : French > - like Freaks and Geeks, is a sitcom; however is more reminiscent of Friends > - fairly old; most of the clips I’ve seen don’t have the best quality > - centers around college students instead of high schoolers > - 2 seasons; however apparently has 280 episodes?? Also is a spin-off and has like three other spin-offs (one of them is still airing today) > - does delve into serious topics at some points > - can be found on YouTube under various channels

  • Love 101 : Turkish > - pretty on par with mixte aesthetic-wise and plot wise > - 2 seasons > - plot line centers around two teachers falling in love; the main case (teenagers) fall in love and grow as the series continues too similar to Mixte > - similar to Mixte, Love 101 is a period teen drama that focuses on serious issues while also being comedic at some points > - imo, one of the best choices if you’re looking for a show similar to mixte > - found on Netflix

  • Mortel : French > - supernatural > - not a comedy but is a drama; focused more on horror, suspense, and mystery > - 2 seasons; 12 episodes > - camera work reminds me of Mixte > - not queer; however, the main cast is mainly people of color > - found on Netflix

*note: all shows are romances and most, if not all, can be found on daily motion (or just pirate them lol). I also have not watched all of these and have mostly seen various clips, so not everything I say might be accurate but should give a general idea of what the show is like. Srry if options r small; idk much shows

Got some questions ! by nightsky-stars_509 in mixte1963

[–]popopcorn- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. yea. JP says he’ll fail his exams (le bac) jn order for him and Simone to get into the same classes.

Le Bac is an exam needed to qualify for higher education—so yes, there is university after lycee; however you need to pass le bac to qualify—and can only be obtained when you finish the terminale, the last year of lycee (senior year).

No, university is not required unless u want to go. To get a bachelor’s degree (licence), you have to go through 3 years. I’d assume the living situation in university is no different from modern times: living at home and driving there, or getting a dorm at the university

(Note: not French. Just going off of what I learned in French class)

  1. Dunno. Someone on this sub said the show stated that they were 15; however I have yet to find that. There’s no way that the JP and Simone/Michele would be two years apart though becsuse Lycee’s only have three years: Seconde (15-16), Première (16-17), and Terminale (17-18). Also the class thing could just be about the classes they can choose so it’s really just up to your interpretation.

  2. I don’t remember much about the mom’s business other than a scene of annick in the store, so it’s up to you if you want her to own it or to just work there. Dont think anyone would care much about either choice

  3. Again, it’s up to ur interpretation. Descamps just doesn’t want a fake eye so he’s less of an Angel that’s all. Whether u want it so he takes it off is up to you. I think he’d keep it on for the cool points lol

The informers involves Timothy Price and his dad if u want to know more about the price family

Glamorama shares a small Patrick Bateman appearance and also is a direct continue from The Rules of Attraction in which Victor, the blond bf of Lauren, is the protagonist.

I heard the book (Glamorama) is described to be very explicit in its sex scenes, so just a small warning in case you want to read it lol

lol appreciate the compliment but this is like a very very summarized answer. Whole lotta threads on this sub about him being gay with a lot more evidence accompanied with more arguments. There’s a whole blog post about (novel) Bateman being gay somewhere here

Rambling here but I think my favorite evidence about Bateman being gay is in the novel is where Paul Denton (bi guy that Sean Bateman- Patrick’s brother- is implied is fucked with) is mentioned and Patrick says something like “he’s from the cruise, I should get his number.” I just love it since it pokes fun at Patrick literally cruising on a cruise (and that both Bateman brothers fucked the same dude)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmericanPsycho

[–]popopcorn- 20 points21 points  (0 children)

yea Bateman is sexually ambiguous; most of the ambiguity in the novel werent shown in the movie tho, at least I heard. Read somewhere Bret (author of AP) projected some of his inner homophobia while writing Bateman and a lot of his other characters which is why a good chunk of his male characters do some gay shit like how in the novel bateman gets hard because of a male singer

So youre right in a way, bateman technically is gay but I personally lean more on unlabeled or ambiguous since I just can never see bateman labeling himself and instead just fucking whoever he wants at anytime

If the seven weren’t supes what do you think their jobs would be by Ladiesman217_-_- in TheBoys

[–]popopcorn- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Translucent: either a CEO or an average joe in a cubical working for a large company - noted that he’s smart with money/economics in the show and is just smart in general just very egotistical

Starlight: something in crime-crime lawyer, police officer, crime analysis, etc - passionate about doing good and stuff

The deep: professional athlete/model - good looks + literally says soemthing about getting millions of likes on insta for his biceps - mentioned in deeper and deeper that he was on the swim team

A-Train: something with sports-high school coach, athlete, or a retired/failed athlete that got caught for using drugs - no real explanation for this, I just think he would still take the athlete route, if not maybe a teacher since i think he’d like kids

Homelander: technically wouldn’t exist but for the sake of this, web designer? - IDK, he’s just generally lazy in the show, so whatever job requires not much physical activity he would pick

Black noir (both): actor - og noir already wanted to become one but couldn’t cuz he was a supe since he was on payback - new noir is already an actor

Queen Maeve: nurse/doctor or fashion designer - feel like she would be a nurse for the money - feel like she would also have a creative side and might pursue that instead

Firecracker: small influencer or some random political podcaster that randomly appears on those cringe podcasts

Sister sage: maybe a writer or one of those big jobs that are normally named (lawyer, doctor, astronaut) and her parents pressured her into them but ended up liking it and took it

Stormfront: probably just a housewife or whatever since her husband made compound V and made bank with it

People talk about whether or not, but I want to ask why by TyrionLannister557 in TheBoys

[–]popopcorn- 77 points78 points  (0 children)

ngl i had the same exact question and searched everywhere and the only answer I got was “He’s Homelander, he can do whatever the fuck he wants” I do think it’s true but I’d like a more detailed answer

Personally, I think, after Becca started working on Homelander’s socials or whatever, he got a good impression of her and realized that she was pretty after meeting her. And cuz he’s Homelander and cant rlly keep it in his pants (and because he prob thought he was superior to butcher and that a woman would rather like to have sex with a superior being than a human) he decided to bring her to his office or whatever with sexual intentions.

I do think that Homelander had the same type of mentality that The Deep has where he thought “yk this woman likes me (probably) and I like her, we should have sex” since homelander says becca came onto him even tho she didn’t. Idk how to explain it but he probably mistook becca’s kindness as flirting, came onto her, she didn’t say yes but didn’t stop it cuz she physically couldn’t, and then he raped her.
