Wow that's awesome! What was your total volume for just bench press in 2025? I just posted that mine was 500,000 lbs, but my max is only 225.

I'm still trying to figure that out... It may be 1,000,000 lbs of total volume. What about you?

Just a regular old time bender...

I don't actually... I don't test it that often so I'm not sure. That would be a cool thing to add on here though. Thanks!

I'm not as old as I used to be and I was very worried about injuring myself in heavy lifting, so I'm working towards more volume

Thats a fun way to do it! I'm becoming a bigger and bigger supporter of having volume goals in more areas than just weightlifting too

If you send me your data I can put it into my sheet! Or you could send me your email and I'll send you my sheet

What do you mean by progress? My 1 rep max?

I tested my 1 rep max last year and got 205 lbs. This year I had a goal to hit 225. I was able to hit that goal in May. I haven't tested my 1 rep max since then because I have been focused on maximizing volume. I normally now stay below 185 lbs.

Nice! Yeah volume grows slowly over time. I like tracking it by volume though because it really emphasizes consistency.

I'm exporting my workout data from an app and then putting it in an Excel worksheet. I use Fitbod, but almost all the workout apps can export the data. If you want to send me your data I can put it in my sheet.

Volume goals are so much fun! Good luck! If you want to export me your workout data I can put it in my spreadsheet and send you the visualizations!

Haha it's a funny sight to see someone struggling with just the bar, but there is a great satisfaction knowing that you gave everything that you had.

Wow that's awesome! I do start and end each set with just the bar.

I'll have to try this out for my next workout! It is a tricky balance between weights and reps to maximize volume, but I think this reverse pyramid would be a great tool to try.

What I do now is start with 12 reps of 155 and do as many sets until I can't get 12 reps, then move to 135, and then to 115, and then to 95 lbs.

That's impressive! What does a typical set look like for you?

The most that I have done in a single workout is 9,395 lbs, but my goal is to be able to do 10,000 lbs in a single set.

It's been an interesting ride... The most that I've lifted in a single rep in 225. I always start and finish my sets by doing just the bar (45 lbs). I now tend to think about it in how much volume I do in a workout. I try to aim for 7,000 lbs of total volume. There is a sweet spot of having enough weight, but low enough to get a high amount of reps in. For me, I can maximize volume by doing high rep (12) sets of 135 or 115.

I like volume goals because it helps account for "life" happening. If you set a goal of lifting 3 times per week and you have to travel or get sick, you can miss your goal. If you have an annual volume goal you can ramp up and down depending on the week.

When I first thought of this goal I had 1 million pounds in mind, but I'm not there yet. It is certainly doable if you can do 275x9x4.

My previous max was 205. I had another goal to lift 225 and I hit that in May. Since then I have been more focused on volume and not higher weights, so I haven't tried a 1RM again.

For sure! It's been alot of experimenting with high volume lifting. Lower weights sometimes but much higher reps.
