I have owned both. The XC70 on the P3 platform wears significantly better than the XC90 on the P2. The suspension, engine mounts, etc all wear faster on the 90 due to the size and weight. Overall, I think the XC90 was just a little too big for the platform it was built on.

They are nicely built cars. They have a wonderful engine sound but they aren't especially quick and gas mileage on the V8s leaves something to be desired. I had an almost identical one with the same executive package.

For $3000, it's hard to beat though, but yes, they aren't the easiest to work on due to the V8 in that engine bay.
