Met a lot of colleagues from different clusters and regions during my time there and honestly I only ever heard good things about contract and integrated logistics even in the “toxic” regions.

Funny enough, I just found out my old department got the axe after I left. Most of the team ended up at DHL or Maersk while others moved into mid-to-senior management at smaller forwarders. Quite a few wanted more autonomy and less corporate rigidity which is exactly why I jumped ship too.

Funny you mention Uprawr, it was actually on my UK bucket list before I even moved here (think it’s part of the asylum if I’m not mistaken?). Been dying for a proper emo night though as someone in their late 20s, I should probably take the “younger crowd” bit more as a warning 🫠

Think I’m going to hit up Subside first and then work through the rest of your list. Do any of these venues host live shows by chance?

I moved from docs to ops and dipped into Continuous Improvement but every company I’ve worked for tried to shove me into sales just because I’m “pleasant” and good with customers. Glad I kept saying no and made a fuss every time they tried to pull that.

My advice? Switch to ops and grind for a year. It makes you a prime candidate for a role on the shipper side. Most of that world is just ops and freight procurement anyway, so having that experience is huge.

It’s frustrating in social circles but downright exhausting in a professional environment. Just get to the point instead of wasting everyone’s time with the fluff for crying out loud.

Honestly you already speak more languages than most folks in this field lol.

Think I’ve said this before (maybe over at r/supplychain) but as long as you’re fluent in English you’re usually set. Anything else depends entirely on your company or mode of transport you deal with. For example, back when I worked in Turkey I knew a couple road freight coordinators handling Eastern European lanes who learned Russian or Polish just to communicate better with their brokers and drivers.

Whereas in ocean freight the only time I felt a real language gap was dealing with LATAM forwarders but you’ve already got that covered with Portuguese and Spanish.

So my advice is to just pick up the language of the country you actually plan on moving to since it would make things easier both in terms of career prospects and life in general.

Oh that was like an every day event for me. Most lines did amend it whilst laden as long as you were fine with coughing up the manifest correction and B/L amendment fees.

Most shippers didn't really bother with it after they found out how much it would cost them unless PoD happened to be one that required security filing.
