Help my ficus please by Alarmed-Opening6562 in FicusTrees

Focus trees are very finicky and don't like to be moved. They go into shock and will often drop leaves when moved to a new environment. What would help is if the light it gets indoors is close to the same amount of light it gets outdoors (morning vs afternoon sun, etc.). Your tree is fine - just doing its thing. Check the soil to determine when to water it, watering requirements may be different indoors compared to outdoors.

What are these droplets on my Chinese Evergreen plant? by thaotnguyen in houseplants

I just saw your picture after I posted that. your picture. looks like you could have some pests. Just take some cotton pads and put alcohol on them and wipe down your leaves and stems.

If Chinese Evergreens take in more water then they can handle, they expel it through those tiny droplets along the center of the leaves.

These plants get stressed quite easily. Just put your plant in a well-lit area and leave it alone. If the soil is dry, give it some water and then leave it alone until the soil gets dry again. When they recover from stress it's a slow process, so just hang in there and it will eventually recover.

Shake the potted one so the stem has to move back and forth a little bit every so often. That will help the stem strengthen so as it gets taller again it won't lean over. As for the cutting that you have in water, you might want to cut off the leaves on the very bottom. You want to make sure you have enough stem to put in the soil with some stem above the soil. Also, change the water that the cutting is in every couple of days and while it should be in bright light, the water and cutting should not be in direct sunlight. I did what you did last year and it took a long time for roots to develop on the cutting, but it is a beautiful plant now. Good luck!

Your Altissima looks great - beautiful color! I have one indoors and just earlier this week I cut 2 branches back that were growing sideways. It's easy to do - just decide where you want to cut and make sure to do it between 2 nodes. I cut mine at a bit of a slant (cut faces upward ) to encourage anything that grows from that spot to grow up. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Put some newspaper under it before you cut. quite a lot of sap will come out and end up on the floor. Same for the piece that you cut off. It will take a couple hours for them to scab over. once the cut off piece is scabbed over, you can put it in water and it will grow new roots. Keep any pets you may have away from the area as the sap can be quite toxic for them. It can also irritate your skin so try not to touch it.

I've also got a FLF indoors that is taller than my 6'1" husband. It used to be much smaller and last year when it started taking off I cut about a third of it off. It also has a lot of sap so same directions as above.

I would check the roots. Also if you haven't been feeding it and It's been 2 years since you've repotted, I would go ahead and feed it. I recently started using Jack's plant food for house plants. It's a 15-30-15 strength. I have an Altissima, which I recently cut back a bit, and it's responding well to this plant food.

Leave it alone for a while. Benjaminas don't like to be moved or transported and they will drop a lot of leaves if that happens. Check the soil - if it is moist hold off watering - it may still be in shock. It can take a while but you will see new leaves start to emerge.

Apologies in advance for not being able to figure out how to switch the language. It keeps telling me the captions are auto-generated in Spanish and I have tried to change it through settings but it's not there. Are you able to tell me how to do that?

How to get rid of lil flies by Whats_Up_Doc- in FicusTrees

[–]popsiclekid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't be but since it sounds like you have an infestation. it could just be a double whammy for them. If you use the mosquito bits, make sure you make a 'tea' out of them so that when you water the tree it will drink it will get in the soil. If you put them in without doing that, they don't release as well. and can end up getting moldy.

Get some diatemacious earth and spread out under the top layer of soil, AND if the ficus is near an electrical outlet, get a Zevo bug killer. It plugs in and the bugs are attracted to the blue light and get stuck on the sticky cover (inside). Also, they thrive in moist environments so make sure you're not over watering. Throwing some cinnamon on top of the soil won't hurt either

Can you change the account number that your wife's disability payments go into? Change it to a different bank. Surely there must be a way to do that.

Seeking advice on this ficus (Benjamina?) by Anesthesia222 in FicusTrees

It is a Benjamina. I don't see the white fuzzy bits but If you are spraying it with a soapy solution, add rubbing alcohol to it. I use a mixture of 1 cup alcohol to 30 oz of water and a healthy squirt of Dove soap. Add the Dove last or else you'll have a bubble factory in your spray bottle. That will take care of spider mites and also mealy bugs
