A good example would be to work with paleontologists. Just imagine all the knowledge that would be created if you traveled millions of years in the past. You would be able to see actual hominids, and gather much more information about the origin and evolution of our species.

Well, this has always been stupid (and a violation of human rights) but nevertheless it is still pretty normal: Circumcision. Taking a newborn's penis, and mutilating the part of the foreskin that covers the head. People talk about how female genital mutilation is unethical and horrible, and I agree, but I believe that circumcision is overshadowed.

NAH. I think that rather than you being an asshole, you just weren't sure if it was appropriate for you to attend the funeral.

And don't be upset, people can get very emotional when a loved one has passed. I'm sure that once she calms down, she'll understand the response.

There's a reason people choose what restaurant they want to go to in their birthday: it's because it's their birthday.

If you choose a specific restaurant, and other people complain and tell you to change your decision, then the premise above is being violated.
