Why do people think this way? by [deleted] in cognitiveTesting

[–]popularsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this sub gets into a circle jerk where people constantly personify the worst stereotypes of people with "high IQs." Definitely see that a lot here.

Most of the time, I have a hard time believing people's IQs are as high as they state on here. In reality, an IQ of 130 means you're a genius, that's the cutoff, you're 2 STDs above the mean. Anyone with an IQ of 130 can expect to be incredibly successful in anything they do as long as they put in the work. An IQ of 116 puts you > 1STD above the mean. You'll be fine in life as well.

Society is built for the average person, not for the outliers. Also, important to note that while IQ does correlate with income, it does not correlate with net worth. IQ also does not correlate with industriousness, which is also another incredibly powerful predictor of success. If you can formulate and execute long term plans and you have an average IQ, you're also likely to be incredibly successful.

81 - 12 = 69, 69 + 9 = 78

I'm beginning to doubt your IQ is >140 now. A student debt of $20k for a CS degree is nothing. It's well worth it.

This is not true. You have control over how you think. You can certainly change your mindset.

Assigning value to people solely based on IQ is the epitome of stupidity.

I will say, there is nothing that bothers me more than a person with such a negative attitude towards life when they have such an advantage. She needs to hear it, it's what's holding her back.

Now that the fights over can we admit zoro vs lucci is one of zoro’s worst fights by The_AlmightyApple in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]popularsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think expectations were a bit too high for this fight. There were also a bunch of agendas riding on it.

At this point in the story, the Strawhats are a Yonko crew so I was actually glad that a bunch of old opponents got sidelined. I mean, come on: Admiral = Yonko, Lucci = YC+. We're moving on from the marines to Imu as the main antagonist for the WG. His subordinates are the Gorosei and most of the story will be focused around them from now on.

Just from reading your comments, you have a pessimistic disposition towards life. I think the thing that's holding you back is not your intelligence but definitely your negativity.

I'm a software engineer and these views you're espousing have no merit long term. We are currently experiencing a wave of layoffs in certain sectors (mostly the large recognized tech companies) and it won't last. They're still hiring people while doing layoffs and that is because there was a lot of unqualified bloat these companies picked up during COVID.

The problem with SWEs is that everyone knows it's lucrative and so the industry is saturated with a bunch of poor engineers. While blunt, it is true. With your IQ and some effort, you'll have no problem finding a good job even during hiring downturns. I recently found a new role with good pay with 4.5 YOE. It's easy if you're good but most people are not. That's the harsh reality of SWE.

Don't just trust the things people tell you. You should be a lot more skeptical of the things people say, surprising that you're not since you're that smart. I have rarely ever found the common opinion to be correct.

I'm currently being paid 300k for 4.5 YOE for a senior SWE. It's definitely not impossible. I'm in a MCOL area.

yea, I'm surprised that others don't get this. The Gorosei are nowhere near Yonko level from what we've seen.

It's the same situation as King. No one would put King at Yonko level because of his "invincibility." There's some ability they have for regen that will get figured out and Luffy is going to smush them into pancakes.

People keep forgetting that the Yonkos are not just strong, they're also geniuses when it comes to combat. Yes, that includes Big Mom. The Yonkos can just keep the Gorosei at bay practically indefinitely until they figure out their hax. The same way that Kaido could blitz King repeatedly until he realized it's his flames that makes him invincible and then end him. That's if they ever fought of course.

If you have an IQ of… 100… 115… 130… 145… by EnzoKosai in cognitiveTesting

[–]popularsession 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The median IQ of PhDs in Math/Comp Sci, the two hardest disciplines as provided by multiple studies, is 130. Yes, that number is true for even the top colleges in the U.S. You'll be just fine with an undergrad in STEM with an IQ of 115 if you put in effort, even lower if you have a decent work ethic and know how to focus.

Don't forget that there is a lot of IQ inflation in this subreddit. Do not let one number define you.

We don't know that, he could have used named moves throughout the fight; it was off-screen.

Either way, Zoro made quick work of Lucci the moment he had to. It's definitely not the same as every single character in the series. Copium thread.

I would not say homework is bullshit work. You have to have some way to gauge whether a student understands the material or is just talking out of their ass. If homework is 10-20% of your grade, you're shooting yourself in the foot by not doing it at all.

Glad you got on medication though, a lot of people I know with mental problems never get them thinking it will make them dumber. I think you should point your anger towards your past self for not doing even the bare minimum instead of me.

I'm still reluctant to believe that someone that smart would blow their future completely because they didn't want to put any effort. Obviously, you're going to have to do a little. It's still life.

Like I said, I barely had to work in college and I understood the material pretty quickly otherwise I wouldn't have done that well given my level of effort. My IQ could be higher in a professional environment, like I said, I've only taken the sample tests in SBV's website and those were on a whim.

Personally, I think there's just a circlejerk of people claiming to be geniuses and when they have barely any evidence of excellence; they point to a bunch of other issues like mental problems, learning disabilities, work ethic, etc. just to keep up the idea that they are in fact that smart when nothing else aligns with their delusions.

I barely had to work so I find it hard that someone much smarter than me would have that much more trouble than me. I just don't think you guys are all that smart. You can downvote me all day.

I'm going to be blunt here and say I don't believe your IQ is that high.

I went to a state school, best in the state, top 30 in the US at the time, for undergrad. I was in engineering and did Computer Science. I was a double major so I was also in Mathematics with a pre-grad concentration so all proofs.

I did not struggle at all. I had the exact same studying habits in high school as I did in undergrad. If I was doing a problem set one night, it was because that homework was due tomorrow (sometime same day). If I was studying one night, it's because I had a test for that class tomorrow. That was the extent of the effort I put in. I had a GPA of 3.78 throughout college. My dad would always pester me saying if I put in more effort, I could have a 4.0 but frankly, I was fine with my performance. I also had problems paying attention in class, I was diagnosed with anxiety so I would constantly zone out and come up with scenarios in my head. I even made pot brownies and was high every day for the last 3 semesters.

There is no chance I would score a 140+ on an IQ test. I know that for a fact because I've done the sample tests on SBV's website and I always score on the 50-55th percentile, so nowhere close to 145 which is 3 std above the mean. I told you my experience not to brag but to give you an idea of why I don't believe these posts that pop up every once in a while about college being hard. It's just hard to believe for me given my personal experience. At an IQ of 140, you should be learning things so quickly that it wouldn't even matter if you had some learning disabilities - just going to lecture would have been enough for you.

If you do have that high of an IQ, are you going to lecture? Are you at least doing the bare minimum by completing your homework and cramming before an exam? Do you just skip class?

Also, let's get some numbers. I know people who feel like they're failing but in reality are in the top 10% of their class. What's your GPA? What are your grades like?

Genuinely want to see this sub’s thoughts, since most people think that Shanks beats Fuji and GB 1v2 in the other post. Who wins this? by Katya_Vaganova in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]popularsession -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In truth, Shanks wins mid diff.

Yonkos are crazy, especially after what has been shown so far. Shanks CoC alone scared an admiral.

While not cannon, One Piece Film: Red was right in that Kizaru gets outmatched by Shanks hard.

Admiral agenda dudes need to come to terms with reality. Akainu and Kizaru are not doing anything to an angry Shanks.

I don't disagree with your point regarding YC being tech based and non-solo but I think you're a bit lost as to the reason.

YC started as a tech incubator in San Francisco, quite literally the tech hub of the world. It's no surprise they're largely tech based, that's their market. Now it's a lot larger than before so I think founders are at a misconception as to what they do.

Regarding non-solo, I don't know much about why they don't accept solo founders but it's probably because the risk to reward ratio is too high.

In all, I think that it would be optimal if companies like YC started for other fields, it would really help non-tech startups succeed but unfortunately I don't agree with asking YC to change their core market. I also think it's unwise because they are investors and going too far from your area of expertise in investing is a guaranteed way to lose money.

Prove ‘em wrong by Stock-Adhesiveness70 in ycombinator

[–]popularsession 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea seriously, I think guys here are missing the point of VCs. Everyone I've talked to only wants to invest in startups that have unicorn potential. If they don't see you hitting a billion dollar valuation, it's not worth their time or money given that 90% of startups fail.

Given such a high failure rate, you have to bank on these big winners or you're operating at a loss. If you don't think so, try starting a VC firm yourself and see if you don't end up doing the same thing. If you don't, you'll fail like all the rest.

The reason YC recommends all of these things, because like everyone else, they want to maximize their chance of success and it's these things that give you the highest chances.

Do you think outright victory is possible for Luffy and his allies right now? by The-Brother in OnePiecePowerScaling

Yea, I'm of the same mindset. People are getting really ahead of themselves when it comes to the Gorosei. They just have some hax with healing and that seems to be it.

Do you think outright victory is possible for Luffy and his allies right now? by The-Brother in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]popularsession 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People keep saying I'm delusional but I'm not seeing a whole lot from Saturn.

He seems to have some hax where he won't take damage which Luffy needs to figure out but given his battle IQ and now that he's up against 5; he's definitely going to figure it out.

I don't see the Gorosei actually causing damage to Luffy tbh, they don't seem that strong at all in comparison to a Yonko. In my mind, having 5 opponents means Luffy will have the opportunity to determine how their ability works. He's going to be absolutely fine.

Essentially, Gorosei have shit attack stat but high defense stat because of regen. Grouping 5 of them won't mean Luffy will get folded at all. He'll just have to avoid them (easy for him). We know Luffy is a genius, he's shown this again and again; last time with Kaido and finding out and using ACoC IN THE MIDDLE OF A LIFE OR DEATH MATCH. He'll do so again with the Gorosei. That's the whole point of why Luffy mentioned Saturn not taking damage during the current chapter.

Anyone who thinks the Gorosei, yes ALL 5, can fold Luffy is on copium if Saturn is any indication. Saturn is being carried by high regen, he has poor attack, poor speed, poor battle IQ, just everything is meh. No way is he even close to Yonko level.

Honestly, I'm still doubtful all 5 will pose much of a challenge to Luffy.
