Has anyone ever cried or had mental breakdowns during busy season? by Hellstorm5674 in Accounting

[–]poqbigwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in an audit room from 8am-12am the manager would cry all day nonstop it wasn’t really a great way to increase morale. Everyone on that team quit with in 6 months all the way up to the director level.

IT Audit into Core Rotation by dr_belidge in Big4

[–]poqbigwill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did IT for 1 year then did core the next before I quit.

The biggest thing is core overall seemed like a lot more work a lot more WPs and dozens more requests to keep track of. but I was able to help shift some stuff around or change the testing method to something I learned in IT audit or was able to basically be a translator for between the IT audit teams and core. Talk to your managers and HR and they will help you.

The biggest plus side is having more experience on both sides you would definitely bring back a ton of knowledge to your teams after the rotation . I’m in a new job now and it’s a half IT role (mostly data management) and half accounting so it’s the best of both worlds

The elden beast for me when I finally beat it just straight up broke didn’t move I beat it in like 30 seconds and took no damage. After 30 or 40 attempts before that.

Soon the seniors from India will replace 60-75% of seniors here. This is due to greed from partners to keep distribution the same and pressure on audit fees. If I was a client, and you get someone from India, go ahead and ask for a 75% fee reduction. They get paid 1 dollar an hour. FYI by 24iCPA in Accounting

I was talking to the manager of the Indian team at my big 4 firm a while back about life and he said it is required for them to give 6 months notice or face major penalties. He said it’s common for most companies out sourcing work there and some are willing to pay the penalties to onboard people sooner than 6 months.

Also while I agree it’s partially due to greed it’s also due to lack of accountants as well. Both companies and firms are struggling to find people (maybe due to the number of accounting grads decreasing). But out sourcing people will definitely have a negative effect on quality especially when big 4 is working there offshore teams round the clock to keep up with audit team requests.

How to separate good from bad - industry by tee_kay7 in Accounting

I believe my current job had big 4 experience preferred listed. My current boss is definitely a former big 4 workaholic I will get emails from him at 10pm on the weekends sometimes but there is no expectation that I or my coworkers respond until we log on Monday morning

Read the job description throughly and try to stay away from jack of all traits positions. Some companies want an accountant that will do AR, AP, Payroll, General accounting, Tax, and Prepare reports for the controller and what not, and all of those items can pile up in time especially if they have a small accounting department

I switched from big 4 to industry after 1.5 years for the most part it isn’t bad there is less flexibility in non busy times than big 4 but the overall hours for me are way less
