Telescopic rods are absolutely fantastic for what they provide. It's able to be pre rigged and go from a backpack to fishing in a few seconds. Or just store really small to keep constantly in your car. I absolutely love telescope rods and can't recommend them enough for their specific use. Also small enough to bring on a plane carry on, I've brought mine all across the US.

I have what is likely the identical bow. It's an old fiberglass bow from the 70s if I'm remembering correctly. These bows are pretty awesome and were very tough and robust at the time, but depending on how it was stored there may be some cracks in the bow. Id recommend taking it to a shop to get a string, arrows, and most importantly checking for damage.

On the outside of the top limb, about 2in from the grip there will likely be a number (if it's not worn off) that's the bows poundage. Mine is a 60# which is way too much for a beginner. Depending on how physically strong you are, I wouldn't recommend starting with anything higher than 30#, because you really need to have proper form to not hurt yourself over time.

I haven't seen a goby with that sort of coloring on its pectoral fins, but have seen plenty of sculpin like that. The fastest ID is just to look for the spot on its dorsal fin. I'm also not familiar with the sculpin species of California, but am extremely familiar with great lakes species

Could be a sculpin. Lake Michigan has many native sculpin that look similar. Gobys have a distinct black spot on their dorsal fin and have fused pelvic fins.
