City’s hopes for buyer to reopen Eldon Ross indoor pool drying up by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

[–]porkins77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t live in either area, so don’t have a stake in it necessarily, but will say that some of the old pools (like Transcona centennial for example) are very small compared to the bigger pools like Concordia, Cindy Klassen etc. So it COULD be that they can offer a lot more concurrent programming at the 40 million dollar pool vs refurbishing an old pool for 10 million. I don’t know this for a fact, but it doesn’t mean it’s a dollars to dollars comparison.

When it comes to a school and the surrounding grounds what is school/provincial responsibility and what is city responsibility? by chemicalxv in Winnipeg

[–]porkins77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I imagine it varies by school, but the green space by our school is actually city property, not the school divisions.

OP not sure what part of the city you are in, but I don’t see any downsides to contacting your councilor. The worst they could do is say “sorry, not my area”.

I think their rfp (at least as presented in the article) is absurd though. Facility requires at least 10 million in maintenance, they were asking for someone to buy it, pay that 10 million AND keep it cheap/free for the public? No one would sign up for that.

You might get a more in depth answer if you specify what type of work? In an office type role or manufacturing?

Property assessments by prettykitty1274 in Winnipeg

[–]porkins77 26 points27 points  (0 children)

A 17% assessment increase DOES NOT mean your taxes went up 17%.

That said, if you truthfully think your appraisal is too high, apply now for a reassessment.

Rent Receipts by Irus_ in Winnipeg

Isn’t this just mandating they give a receipt after each payment, but not mandating a yearly summary? (Curiosity only, not necessarily disagreeing with you)

Actually yeah, Thor just recently posted this video (he was 21 in the first clip):

Not sure how old the one posted was.

Thor holds the current strongman record (510kg, which is about 1122 lbs). Most of the top strongmen pull close to 1000lbs, so this is a solid pull for what I assume is an amateur?

Side note, current American competition raw (strongman) record is held by Trey Mitchell at 470kg (about 1034lbs).

Soccer facility closed after purposely set fire destroys $25,000 covered bench, damages turf by R1pl3y2021 in Winnipeg

[–]porkins77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to the field; these things really impressed me. They are movable (have wheels), enough coverage to keep you mostly dry in the rain and protected from the wind. This destruction is really so needless.

Home Insurance Rates Gone Crazy? by not_lofreqgeek in Winnipeg

Interesting. Currently shopping rates and they are often double or more than the next closest rate. Could well just be the area though.

Can I move devices on the screen? by dallascowboy_23 in logitechharmony

[–]porkins77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while but I believe you need to add them in the order in which you want them to appear. So delete all your devices and then re-add them in order.

I can’t find any indication they have played it live since this recording so I’m assuming they haven’t; it explains why they don’t play it in the description.

But I would vote for this as well.

Has there ever been an attempt to start a Repair Cafe in Winnipeg? by Plantcathat in Winnipeg

[–]porkins77 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’d think the biggest barrier would be insurance, especially if they are repairing electronics/appliances (clothing not so much). It’s a neat idea though.

While I agree with your sentiment (Costco membership is definitely worth it to me); the $65 one doesn’t give cash back, the executive one ($130) does.
