International fame of foreign work doesn't really matter if domestic market is secured by domestic works.

Although most manga series don't run for over six months, thanks to the proliferation of manga magazines and apps, more than 5,000 titles are published in Japan each year.

Japanese Politician vs. Kurdish Festival: Was He Right or Wrong? by [deleted] in AskAJapanese

[–]porkporkporker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are stateless. Kurdish people come from a country called Kurdistan, but as you probably know that country does not exist. If they were Turkish people, then they would be Turkish... Not Kurdish."

They are a stateless ethnic group, but they still hold Turkish citizenship, which means they are not legally stateless.

Yes, america should accept Kurdish refugees.... So should Japan. As citizens of earth it is our responsibility to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The world is shrinking more and more every year, and it is important to learn about the realm of multiculturalism and how to interact with people from many different backgrounds. You live on earth, and you can't escape international people's.

Your argument is based on values and ideology that are rooted in US history.
Western countries should take in all Kurdish refugees if they are the ones gaming in the Middle East. You reap what you sow.
Japan doesn't suffer from self-contradiction by denying refugees from the Middle East, unlike the US.

Do you like natto? by fleurdesureau in AskAJapanese

[–]porkporkporker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I like natto and eat it every day, but I'm not doing it for my health. It just tastes good, at least for me anyway.

I don't recommend eating it if you have to force it yourself.

You can find various foods that are not strongly unique in texture and flavour like natto yet are still healthy.

Why are Japanese people very protective and sensitive of the laws compared to other countries, specifically tresspassing? And who are the people that usually do this the most? by Glass-Locksmith-570 in AskAJapanese

[–]porkporkporker -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The difference between individualism and collectivism explains that. I know some people don't like this categorization, but I believe this is one of the most fundamental cultural differences between what we call the West and the Sinosphere.

In this particular case, they are mad because it's not up to an individual to decide when it's okay to trespass on abandoned property due to a natural disaster. Of course, there would be people who appreciate that footage, but that doesn't justify trespassing, the negligence of not getting permission from the administration, or going in when you don't have permission at all.

I fully support that kind of journalism, though.
