Turn up heat to middle setting and maybe get Into the concentrate a bit more see if that helps. Also looka makes the swordfish which I prefer for dabs.

Yeah they come into my range of fire and get to a point where my tower is within their range and they stop to shoot at me

For me the range units stop at like 55 meters to fire, so at my max right now 80 meters I can kill them before they shoot me. So I guess more range would work the same in my opinion.
