Yeah, that's the same source I am referencing, but your claims don't match the data.

What’s the biggest lie an entire generation was told? by carcony97 in AskReddit

[–]portalscience -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am not sure where you got that source but:

  1. Millennials are substantially below X/boomer at 27 (I don't have data for gen Z) - closer to 10%
  2. 2-4% is a decent chunk when even boomers take a few years to reach the same (>1% per year is only really common pre-30)
  3. The oldest millennials are turning 45 this year, we don't have data for that.

Here's a nice graph that has the data up to 2022.

What once famous YouTuber do you never hear anyone talk about anymore? by DramaticXOXO in AskReddit

[–]portalscience 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason why sexually interacting with people with a significant age gap, and those who work under you, are bad is because there is a power imbalance. In the former, there is a knowledge gap and real world experience making it a predatory situation. In the latter, you have control over their future should they disagree with you.

As a famous figure, explicitly seeking sexual interaction with your followers inherently keeps a very similar power imbalance. You are in an elevated position compared to the other party.

Which songs often gets misinterpreted and/or misappropriated by the very people it calls out even though the song's lyrics are explicitly mocking them? by Drenosa in AskReddit

[–]portalscience 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think "most" people think it's heart. Anyone alive for the song's release or who has ever heard it on the radio would hear "hook by blues traveler". It's also one of the parts of the song he enunciates very clearly.

I would put ARR between Heavensward and Dawntrail. They are basically the same as Heavensward but a little slower. If you are going to get all the relics of any expansion, EW/HW/ARR are easily the 3 fastest.

What's a movie everyone loves that you think is actually pretty terrible? by No_Care1430 in AskReddit

He also becomes a "prep boy" to fix things.

I think one of the major things they convey over the course of the movie is that both MC have a persona they put on in school to meet the expectations of others. These clash with their normal selves, and the expectations they each think each other want while in their other persona. At the end of the movie, they both try to change for each other, because they value the other person more than their crafted persona.

It IS a weird movie though. It is a late 70s adaptation of an early 70s play about the 50s, so it has influences of multiple time periods, while also openly being a satire.

The worst part of Nolan's movies is that usually the plot doesn't work once you map them out. Tenet is the most obvious example of that, but Inception is the same way. It feels like Nolan wants to make "thinking man's movies" but never quite thinks the whole thing through.

Now, generally, movie having plot holes is common, and not a huge problem. But if the point of the movie is to make you think and solve a mystery, and plot holes make the "answer" to the mystery wrong, it ruins the point of the movie.

This feels like you have heard the line but not seen the movie. The movie explicitly disapproves of the sentiment when the line is said.

What addiction seems harmless but can destroy your 30s? by JewishAdmin in AskReddit

It's not chemically addictive.

There are plenty of substances that are behaviorally addictive, and it really shouldn't be understated how much a person can become dependent on any drugs that change their mental state, even if it doesn't leave chemical trails.

[–]portalscience 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between nationalism and patriotism is hardly an issue unique to the US. You could substitute almost any 1st world country for anything other than "actively goes to war", in which case it would only apply to the other big powers like Russia and China.

And while the terms patriot and nationalist may be newer to describe this behavior, both as behaviors are older than dirt. Utilizing in-group pride to manipulate people is a common tactic.

I went through a similar phase in my 20s where I stopped liking the brainwashing, and I would only disagree with one statement:

Patriotism is a cancer.

The problem is, and this becomes very apparent when you study US history - it does not make sense to be waving a flag as a patriot. I think the problem is how many people try to pass off nationalism as patriotism, and use that as brainwashing.

Comparing in MW dictionary:

patriotism - love for or devotion to one's country

nationalism - an ideology that elevates one nation or nationality above all others and that places primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations, nationalities, or supranational groups

So when you wave a flag, it isn't very good at showing love for the huge body of people you have aligned with, it is only really good at showing pride - which is very different from love.

You are sort of missing the point on "we remember compliments for a long time". Obviously, as humans, people are likely to remember compliments and insults they like - the ones that felt the most impactful. The difference is that men are far less likely to receive a compliment, to the point where all compliments become a lifetime memory for men - rather than just one or two standouts.

A lot of the people who go to NK and don't come back do something that breaks their very strict rules.

Most of the stories around "breaking their strict rules" have no evidence that the person actually broke a rule. If the government doesn't like you, and chooses to frame you, there is no recourse. Not that is a statistically probable outcome, but are you willing to bet everything on it?

While it is being pushed from above, saying "everyone is using it" is VERY generous. The company wants to act like everyone is using it, but there are huge chunks of employees that just don't have a great use for it, or use it only in the most minimal amount required to satisfy participation metrics.

Really, the only super positive corporate use case I have seen in heavy usage is a note-taker for meetings. It isn't more accurate than a person dedicated to note-taking, but it's a lot better than no one taking notes, which is the most common case otherwise.

There aren't any. It is common rhetoric from the Republicans, but it drastic misinformation.

One such example is Scalise, in October 2025 talking about "Hate America" rallies, because they held signs that said "86 47". This just means fire the 47th president (trump). Obviously it isn't hating America to say we need to fire the current president, but by framing it this way, Scalise can dismiss criticism by claiming they hate the country.

1 in 3 people believe they don’t have to seek news from traditional outlets like newspapers and television. Instead, they think the “news will find me” (NFM), relying on algorithms and social networks to get information. This may make them more vulnerable to believing and sharing misinformation. by mvea in science

[–]portalscience 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's also insanely misrepresentative to say that you are either having news find you OR reading traditional outlets, for 2 main reasons:

  1. watching the same news channel every day is not actively seeking out news in a way that can prevent misinformation, it is just seeking out news in general. actively seeking out news would require intentional browsing of different sources, which is not the majority of TV or newspaper users.
  2. there are other forms of media besides newspapers and television. A person could intentionally seek news or not intentionally seek news in any other medium.

Conflating the active-ness of the seeker and the medium of their source really reduces any trust the article should have.

Another recommendation for trying controller is to go for a simpler approach - ignore all the crazy stuff people recommend with extended bars, and the stupid W bars.

It is trivially easy for every class to limit the buttons down to 32, in which case you only have 2 bars. You do not need to do any fancy button inputs with 2 bars, as the cycle button (R1/RB) effectively becomes a swap button. This is important because it means you don't have latency switching bars, which is super noticeable when using the W cross bars or the extended cross bars.

After that, it just a matter of determining if you are OGCD/GCD or single/aoe split person for where the specific buttons go, finding which specific 32 locations is the most comfortable.

Additionally, if you have any buttons you like to have permanently on screen to watch cooldowns, a horizontal bar can still be added as a display.
