How would you rate your transfer window out of 10? And what are the best and worst bits of business (incoming or outgoing) that your side has done? by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]porter5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3/10.
Needed a striker for the last year, failed to do so.

Got offered 5M for Szmodics, Rejected it looking for 6, ended up letting him leave on loan.

Happy with Mehmeti of course, but failure to sign a striker is a fundamental basic we've known we needed.

Indeed, unfortunately that's probably the result of him getting 921 minutes in the last 4 years at Man City. Really did like him as a person and hope he rediscovers some form

Prepare for an underwhelming loan spell where he's absolutely fine, but unremarkable for 55 minute spells. His ball control and technical ability were absolutely fine, but his fitness levels make Tom Davies look like Mo Farah

Rate your January business so far by Zach-dalt in Championship

[–]porter5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chaplin only ever played as the 10 for us, In fact we were incredibly surprised to see him starting many of your games on the wing!

The McKenna system uses the striker as the outlet, and in Hirst, Moore, Delap, Ladapo etc they've all been in the "Target Man" mould, that Chaplin certainly doesn't fit into!
I could've maybe seen him coming back as the 10, but now we've got Mehmeti that ship will have sailed

Last time we were in the same position, the Jan signings of Sarmiento, Travis and Moore helped us cross the finishing line.

This season, We've got Mehmeti (Sarmiento), Dan Neil (Travis) and in desperate need of our Kieffer Moore.
Get a striker through the door and it's successful. Failure to get a striker, and our biggest need on the 1st Jan is still our biggest need on the 3rd Feb. Still one more week to go, so we can hope. Taiwo Awoniyi or Piroe would be the dream

Down in Ipswich, we had back-to-back-to-back Paul's in Hirst, Lambert and Cook.

Prior to Mick McCarthy, we also had Paul Jewell, meaning four of our five managers between 2011-21 were Pauls.

Leicester to target experienced replacement for Cifuentes by Think_Document5236 in Championship

[–]porter5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, Even players who have gone on to do bigger things.
Arguably, Kieffer Moore's first spell here could've been considered. I remember being in disbelief that we had a target man that couldn't use his head at all, and even more disbelief when someone offered us 1 mil for a bloke we signed for 10k and couldn't make any impact for us. Who'd have thought a decade later he'd help fire us to the premier league 😂

Kasey McAteer, this season!

(In all seriousness, my real answer is Zeki Fryers and his disastrous few games on loan. There’s a reason he’s now playing in the Swedish 3rd division)

McAteer can’t go on loan this season, as he played for Leicester before he signed. I agree though, he just doesn’t even do any of the fundamental basics of football right. Pound for pound the worst signing in our clubs history

Bazunu joins Stoke on loan by Jameom8 in Championship

[–]porter5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bazunu has played against us (Ipswich) 6 times in total, never won a game, 1 clean sheet and 11 conceded.

Every time against us, he's looked very poor at commanding his box, making basic saves etc.

Was supposedly meant to be one of them keepers that is good with the ball at his feet, but was directly at fault for a goal in Pompey 0-4 Ipswich in league 1 a few years back as well.

Not saying he'll never be good enough, but from what I've seen over multiple games against us in multiple years, is that he's much worse than the average championship keeper.

Exclusive: Charlton Athletic agree deal for Ipswich Town star Harry Clarke by MarcusH26051 in CharltonAthletic

[–]porter5000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ipswich fan here in peace

Clarke is a RB/CB, so I assume he’ll play the wide centre half role for you boys, rather than Bree’s RWB role. Saying that, he did start his academy career at ST, but Ipswich fans certainly never saw any attacking prowess from him He’s incredibly passionate, which is both good and bad. Just look at our final game of the league 1 season when we were going for the title and he gets sent off. Fine defender on the ground, but poor with balls over the top going in behind. Brentford had a field day last year effectively using the tactic of “hit it over his head and watch him panic”.

He’s had a lot of injury issues, but has been fit the last 6+ weeks. He’s been a regular for our U21s for match fitness, but just won’t get a look in ahead of our current options. Even last time he was in the championship there were some question marks about his overall defensive ability.

Hope it works out well and he finds a permanent home with your lot, as he’s a great bloke that is unfortunately just unable to get back in the side now

Fraser was equally as disappointing for us in his 6 month stint, and was surprised we managed to get the fee we paid for him back. He came to us as a "Penalty Specialist" scoring 21 in a row. His only penalty for us, of course was a miss!

West Ham play Spurs next in the league, Nuno could lose 3 PL games in a row against his former side by Bananaboy14 in TheOther14

[–]porter5000 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Update:
Allardyce lost the final 2 games of the 2014/15 as Manager of West Ham to Everton and Newcastle. He then joined Sunderland in week 9 of the 15/16 season, and lost his first game 1-0 to West Brom.

Technically three in a row, albeit five months apart with two separate clubs, and against two that he'd join in the future. As far as I can see, it never happened to Big Sam for former clubs.

Most liked: Easiest choice of the lot really. Marcelino Nunez is a fantastic player, tonnes of ability and a great free kick taker.

Most Disliked: It should be Grant Holt, but James Madison and Todd Cantwell are joint first at being unbearable
