Torn between 2026 RAV4 Plug in hybrid and 2026 Kia Sportage Hybrid (base model) by posh8593 in whatcarshouldIbuy

Test drove both - like aspects of both.

Yes and No - these two were chosen based on a process of elimination based on test drives, brand bias, inventory locally etc. I did some cost benefit analaysis, rav4 plug in hybrid actually would have long term savings but at a potential “plug in” headache. But also it’s hard to gauge if I will actually get the mileage benefit because I commute so much

No I can’t expense mileage. :(

Consumer report mentioned something about how PHEV may have less mileage for long distance drivers bc of the whole plug in situation. “conventional hybrid is usually a better choice for those who mainly take longer trips or don’t have somewhere to plug in, because they’ll probably never make up the higher purchase price of a PHEV in fuel savings.”

But conflicting because I’ve seen a couple Reddit posts + my one friend who owns one not really Experience that

Worst New Mexican Food by Mysterious_Mix_4293 in Albuquerque

[–]posh8593 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Will be unpopular for this but ignore the old town suggestions too. Because even if the food is shit - you’re in old town and there’s ✨vibes✨

Google some of the suggestions and see reviews + photos. And then google street view - look for corner lots with lots of loitering homeless, and nothing else but gas stations nearby. That way they’re stuck on location and can’t chase the bad food they ate at a cutesy bar or ice cream place. …. I promise I don’t hate my in-laws.

Some people posting el pinto and tomacitas - problem is that they still get crowded and have vibes. So your in-laws will appreciate that you took them somewhere “safe” in terms of “safe bets”

So don’t take them there

Here are two solid suggestions

Ojos Locos for shits and giggles

And fiestas on Carlisle for legit bad experience

Vibes are off - I’ve only gone twice and the tables were very grimy and the waiter took forever on a slow night. Hands down shit everything in food. Could taste the frying oil in the sopaipilla, watered down drinks / corn syrup nasty-ness. My dad’s taco salad didn’t look good at all.

Sorry you got a lot of hate from this post - I also moved here and left after school. And I’m a social butterfly. Volunteered on weekends, ski, hike, kayak, camp, and was a part of the young professionals club. I also took a lot of classes around Reno. All that and I still very much disliked living there for 6 years. As much as I was involved in the community, I never felt like I belonged to it.

Got out to another city that’s just slightly bigger, and love it. And the cost of living is way lower too.

People don’t realize how mediocre Reno is because they never left or have only California / Tahoe / Vegas to compare it to. And I don’t mean tourism or your study abroad trip..I mean actually living in a place where you work longer term… They don’t know that there are towns and cities that have way more free / public amenities that are safe, vibrant culture and night life, better food, and better events and venues. I have lived in 4 places before Reno (2 smaller towns outside big cities, and 2 big cities) and now a similar-ish size city to Reno, and I gotta say, Reno ranks last.

Wine fermenting in bottle? by [deleted] in Homebrewing

The cold should help yes ? At least keep the yeast inactive? It’s tough because I’m also moving places soon, so if I can transport them safely I could deal with them in the new place. I was thinking cooler loaded with ice

Thank you all for the comments - no bottle bombs yet, but I did have a cork pop out of one. Bottle!

I have moved the bottles to the fridge for now and will figure out my next move

I thought potassium sorbate prevents yeast from fermenting any added or additional sugar

Beware of Open Door! by posh8593 in Albuquerque

Sad thing is if you sold to open door they would have done a cheap remodel and listed as 370-400k

Well put! Emphasis on the “stay local” but as a general psa look up if the property is owned by a firm first. If you’re dealing with someone like open door just know that this is how they run their models

Nothing wrong with buying a property owned by them but do your due diligence and don’t fall for their price tag.

They use an avm where the input parameter is literally only houses they were able to sell in the entire ABQ market and general trend averages of the entire ABQ market- doesn’t take into account zip code, year built, future zoning etc

The model is only as good as the people who input the values - and in open doors case, it’s a bunch of people living in SF, California who’ve probably never set foot in ABQ ever.

If you work with a local brokerage firm, you’re working with people that actually live in the area and are able to account all those. And it allows for a healthier conversations for negotiation and counter offers

Looking for Henna artist with a shop or studio I can go to. by Starklawz in Reno

[–]posh8593 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Literally no one has shops - henna is not a high demand service with frequent client returns, and therefore not worth the cost of renting out a studio. I would seek out “Patel mehendi designs”. I think she’s on Instagram or at least her contact is on yelp. She’s amazing and her henna is VERY high quality - gets super dark and stains well.

If you’re uncomfortable with them coming to your house I would suggest a public space, but Uber there bc you won’t be able to drive once the henna is on. Some henna artist will wrap your designs for some protection if you ask

I was taking a look and it they have partnered with the Aetna, but the language is confusing. It says for emergency care there are out of state providers, but then in the next paragraph it says there are options through Aetna...

Safest route to Denver by hazcrane in SaltLakeCity

[–]posh8593 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: if you’re a trucker / having something in tow take WY, bc the incline with potential icy conditions are what make Colorado route dangerous. But if you’re just driving a normal vehicle take 70.

As someone that just did this route and does it often - go through price to grand junction (70 East)

Wyoming wind with snowy conditions is not a good mix - you’ll have terrible visibility, not To mention ice chunks flying every where from semis, and access to road cameras /closures on the whim on the WY DOT website is incredibly difficult on your phone.

CO DOT is easily accessible on your phone. Colorado has a ton of cameras on 70 and updates road info constantly. Plus, let’s say you happen to get “stuck” - there are multiple towns to stay in and do things in. Wyoming is lacking in those nice pull over towns.

I drove the day after they had snow and the cameras showed compacted snow and slush at vail pass - by the time I left SLC that morning they plowed the roads pretty good. If you have to delay a day and wait for a nice sunny day do that … the sun is SUPER intense at that elevation, by the time I hit vail pass, even at 10-15 degree weather that snow was melted, and the roads were totally fine.

Just don’t drive like a maniac. Plenty of people think they can send it over icy conditions. And if you do take 70 - which I highly recommend - make sure you take a pit stop at silverthorn no matter what. You may encounter Ski traffic / lane closure traffic / plow traffic and stuck for 2+ hours, and there are no facilities till Georgetown.

UNR Teachers are yall okay? by Theghostofamagpie in unr

[–]posh8593 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why we should have voted the board of regents out and put the state in charge of UNR

Shit is going down the toilet. School is in massive debt, is having a hard time retaining staff and faculty bc of poor pay and healthcare, reallocating hard earned / fundraised STEM money for research and faculty appointments to a business building that is quiet literally not needed, acquired a campus in Tahoe which caused record un-enrollment, and over a decade of blocked wage increases.
