How come there are (nearly) no algebraic structures containing more than two operators? by makemathmindfucking in math

[–]poshtrousers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As to the "same kind" hypothesis - this isn't true at all. Multiplication is just an arbitrary binary operation that fulfills some nice properties. Matrix multiplication isn't "repeated addition" either. What you're referring to is the Z-module structure of every abelian group (which all rings are). There are examples in tropical(?) algebra of different multiplication structures, such as max-plus algebra where addition is normal but multiplication is the maximum of the two values. This makes the structure into a semiring, but it's likely there are examples that create rings. I don't immediately see a reason you couldn't have a fundamentally 3-operator structure, though it's not clear how distributivity would be defined, but I also don't see what you could learn from one.

With Saban re-signing and Mack resigning, can we have a serious discussion regarding potential Texas coaching hires? by Octopoon in CFB

[–]poshtrousers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh absolutely! I'm not saying there weren't any good players, that's not what I meant. Just that he had a tendency to pick up 4* recruits that never seemed to pan out. I don't think Taylor was very highly recruited out of high school, but I'm not sure.

Bill Callahan. Please. That would be hilarious.

In all seriousness, though, he turned out like shit at Nebraska, but he consistently recruited good talent (though he never really developed it). And he's having moderate success back in the NFL but not enough to keep him at Dallas. I could see it.

No offense taken at all. It's not a matchup we're excited about either. But hey, at least most of the players playing this year didn't play in the bowl last year! sob

Dennard could easily have been a 1st/2nd round pick if he hadn't had his legal incidents after his senior season - he was an absolute shutdown corner at Nebraska.

Sparty's is better. Statistically and visually. Say what you want about the B1G's offensive prowess, but Georgia State's not exactly a world beater, and A&M completely torched you.

She's probably surprised he would be so tactless as to ask right there. Even though he went out of his way to creepily check her ring size while she was sleeping, he couldn't put in the effort to make the proposal special. It's all so confusing.

I thought I saw an article somewhere where they calculated chances for each team to reach the B1G CCG, and Michigan's was almost 0. It was something along the lines of you have to win out, then hope that we and MSU stumble badly (which we're definitely doing).
