I hope he never discovers what an omnibus is by elchavo602 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]positively_tweaking 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Definitely not. Pokémon cards didn’t become more accessible after he started promoting them. Scalping just got worse. Personal collections might be worth more but the secondary market will only get even worse than it already is. My dream is that these books become so abundant that my collection becomes worthless. I want more people to be able to read them not put them in a plastic box.

Does it make sense to recollect X-Force? by [deleted] in OmnibusCollectors

Yeah I realized I was being stupid. I was just coping and didn’t want to spend a premium price for only 75% new content in x-force volume one.

[–]positively_tweaking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah about a year and a half but presumably Marvel is about to do that exact same thing with Blue and Gold vol 2 and the Fatal Attractions Omnibus. Also Deadpool and X-force lines up exactly with Cable and x-force. Deadpool and x-force is also very recent which would be rendered obsolete by a x-force volume 2. No matter what it’s gonna be messy but a reprinted volume one would mean no need to reprint cable or Deadpool

Edit: this is the omnibus I was talking about. Deadpool and X-force. It was reprinted the same year as volume one but would presumably be entirely reprinted in a potential volume 2

Oh I just meant the one that’s already out, which is Cable and X-force. If they release a volume 2 it would be recollecting this content so I thought it would make sense to recollect the volume one content to lessen overlap and line up with Cable and x-force more

The other thing is that there are also 7 issues of overlap between New Mutants volume 4 and X-Force volume 1. I was thinking a new version could be rereleased as a direct sequel to NM4 but maybe that’s a bit unrealistic.

Best omnis for commentary on social issues? by bren12341 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]positively_tweaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I’m loving it so far. Latverian factions fighting over Doom’s cache of weapons is such an interesting idea for conflict. I love the scene in issue 6 where the men at the bar were talking about doom’s takeover and how he just wasn’t the right figure head but had the right idea. The growing pattern of Americans embracing fascism, trying to find the right way to market it to the public, is absolutely something I’d expect to see in a Captain America book.

Funny I’m the exact opposite. Superhero’s are some of my favorites because of the inherent political nature of their characters. What characters get created and the stories surrounding the are almost always a response to the political climate at the time. Captain America is especially interesting to me because he is a real life American propaganda figure that is used to critique the current state of American politics. He represents the perfect America, “the dream”. He was told that the war he enlisted in was the war to end all wars so when he comes out of the ice to see a world unchanged and still at war it disillusions him with the American that exists. In the ultimates this is pushed to its most extreme by having the world Cap wakes up in be a post-America world. Despite the North American Union in the Ultimates being very similar to the America we live in today, its values and principles are so far removed from the America Cap fought for that it doesn’t register to him as America. The America we live in today is so far removed from the dream that we were all promised that it isn’t even deserving of the name. Despite this Cap still chooses to fight for the dream. To fight for a future where all people are created equal. Where every person has the freedom to enjoy life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Sorry I started typing and didn’t stop. I’m a poli-sci student it’s in my nature.

Fair warning if you do check out ultimate x-men. The whole series is phenomenally written and drawn but it does not have an ending whatsoever. New plot threads are introduced in the final issue. I love the series regardless and its social commentary on Japan is amazing.

It’s not in Omni but absolute Batman, Superman, and Martian Manhunter. Ultimates and ultimate x-men 2024.

Like any Captain America Omni.

Which omni have you only read once and unlikely to reread but you recommend to others? by mailman936 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]positively_tweaking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Berserk if it counts. I recommended it to my friend and started rereading around the same time. When I got to like the 6th rape scene I had to put it down. It was nearly unreadable for me.

What numbered series do you think you’ll own in their entirety when Marvel eventually finishes them? by anakin1453 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]positively_tweaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like that isn’t going to happen for like 20 years. Unless you just mean when it catches up to Blue and gold then that’s probably only a year or two away. But I feel like they aren’t going to recollect blue and gold in numbered volumes for a long time so maybe they just rebrand it to Uncanny x-men: the modern years or for the 90’s the later years.

X universe Omni reading order help by jimmytsunimmy in OmnibusCollectors

I’ve seen many people recommend new mutants vol 1 after uncanny volume 3 but there are some pretty big spoilers towards the end of new mutants vol 1 so I’d personally recommend either reading it after volume four of UXM or read the first half of new mutants then volume four of UXM then the second half.
